Wellness: Siemens Healthineers

Value-based care is a significant factor in the transformation of healthcare. Siemens Healthineers believes in this too. For this reason, Siemens Healthineers introduced their Digital Ecosystem portfolio at the 16th Hospital Management Asia 2017 in Manila, Philippines. With this, the company aims to provide value-based care through developing a fast, easy, and seamless interaction between providers of data and knowledge.

“We believe that digitalization and the associated networking of healthcare providers is essential for the transformation to value-based healthcare. With the Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem, we are providing our customers with much deeper insights than previously possible into the key components that create both clinical and operational value,” said Elizabeth Staudinger, president-Asia pacific, Siemens Healthineers.

This Digital Ecosystem relies on a cloud-based network called teamplay, which is known for its way of handling data privacy and is already used in hundreds of customer sites. Also, it brings together a number of platforms such as LifeNet and PEPconnect from Siemens Healthineers.

Teamplay makes it possible to assess the capacity utilization of imaging devices, the various work sequences, and individual examinations in an easy-to-follow manner that meets the requirement. Teamplay’s protocol function makes it simple to combine, process, and analyze protocols. Its operating concept is designed around the user’s instinctive understanding—no training needed to use the platform.

Teamplay’s Usage and Dose offerings help prepare huge volumes of incoming data on a single platform so that analysis takes can be performed at lightning speeds. It keeps record the number of examinations per hour, as well as the time and nature of the examinations, total capacity utilization for the device and the parties providing treatment, and the time it takes to move from one patient to the other. This information helps improve hospital work sequences and employee workloads.

Siemens Healthineers’ Personal Education Plan (PEPconnect) provides up-to-date learning modules for medical imaging. PEPconnect gives medical technology assistants and doctors access to training courses with 7,000 learning activities on Medical Imaging and Therapy, Laboratory Diagnostics, Point of Care, Molecular, and General Healthcare, in up to seven languages namely English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and Japanese. With all these, PEPconnect grants customers access to education and real-time performance support virtually anytime, anywhere on any device. In addition to this, customers can make their own personalized learning experience in accordance to their needs and share it with others.

LifeNet, meanwhile, is a web-based customer portal for managing the fleet of Siemens Healthineers systems at clinical facilities. Its user interface, LifeNet 2.0 eService Portal, has been upgraded for easier operation and understanding. Optimized for mobile use, the portal displays real-time status for viewing of system availability and of open service tickets being transferred directly to the appropriate Customer Care Center at Siemens Healthineers. Last but not the least, LifeNet’s appointment view shows upcoming maintenance work and upgrades for the systems, so that postponement can be done if necessary. A new feature also allows clients to plan maintenance requirements not only months ahead, but a whole year in advance.

Siemens Healthineers also developed Cinematic VTR that generates photorealistic images by calculating realistic lighting effects. It uses raw data from CT and MRI scans to create hyper-realistic anatomical photos that even ambient occlusion such as the depth of a fracture can be modeled. With Cinematic VTR, medical images become easily discernible with just the playful tricks of light. Its images can be rotated and zoomed as preferred for better view and greater highlight to details.
