Restaurant Review: Early Bird Breakfast Club

Early Bird Breakfast Club

This cute and dainty restaurant is owned by Kendrick and Ellen Co, and the idea behind the breakfast theme they chose has its roots in Manila’s busy, 24/7 rhythm. Since everybody is constantly on the move, and many people have work in shifts all around the clock, they wanted to provide breakfast any time of the day. They chose warm, vibrant colors for the interior because this is what they want the customers to see when they wake up. As such, it’s a favorite venue for photoshoots and pre-nups for those who want a little more sunshine in their pictures.

Experience: We visited their branch at Century City Mall. Customers are free to choose whether to dine inside or go alfresco. The whole place is bright, feminine, and very easy on the eyes. The typography and images painted on the walls is a great touch, along with the mini-lampshades attached to the walls. To add to the morning appeal, their menu is made to resemble a newspaper!

They served us a Full English Breakfast, which contained pork sausage, bacon, sautéed mushrooms, eggs, baked beans, and grilled tomatoes. If you need a reason to get out of bed in the morning, this isn’t a bad way to go. It is protein and carbo-loaded, which you can use to get a headstart on even the longest days. There’s not a lot to say about such a heavy dish. It’s delicious, extremely filling, and has all the comfort food you want to see on your plate in the morning.

We were served French onion soup with a deep-fried gruyere sandwich next. There’s a lot of flavor in this pairing, so you might want to go slow or maybe share it. The crispiness of the gruyere sandwich is the kind of thing you’d love to have on a rainy morning, and the soup goes with it well. Think grilled cheese and tomato soup, but with more intensity.

Last but not the least was the one dish I was waiting for since the start of the meal: Champorado with toasted anchovies. This champorado created a buzz on the internet because of its yin and yang presentation. It has the right amount of sweetness and the anchovies balanced the sweet flavor of the champorado thanks to the salty bite it adds. There are as many champorado recipes as there are households, but trust us when we say this is objectively delicious.
