Getting a passport these days is quite easy and quick. With the opening of DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) Consular Offices in various locations, if you bring all of the required documents, you’ll be able to finish the application process in less than a day, and all you will have to do is wait until your passport is released.
First you will need to make sure you have the following documents before you start the application process:
Original Birth Certificate on Security Paper issued by the PSA (Philippine Statistical Agency). You can get this from the nearest NSO office or you can order your birth certificate online at www.ecensus.com.ph/Default.aspx. Each copy costs around PHP 315 and it will be delivered to you by courier in about a week after you place your order.
If you are married, you will also need to submit an original copy of your Marriage Certificate printed on Security Paper issued by the Philippine Statistical Agency. You can also order this online from the same website as your Birth Certificate.
A valid Identification Card with picture—it could be your Work ID, an SSS ID, Driver’s License, or PRC ID, among others.
Supporting identification document that is more than 1-year-old. At least three of the following will do: an old NBI clearance, Barangay Clearance, SSS E-1, Police Clearance, Postal ID, or Voter’s ID that had been issued to you at least one year before you apply for a passport.
Next step is to make an appointment. If you are in the Metro Manila area, you will need to go online at www.passport.com.ph/choose-branch and set an appointment at the DFA Consular Office nearest to you.
If you live outside of Metro Manila, you don’t need to get an appointment. You can just walk-in to the nearest DFA Consular Office, and probably finish the application process in about two hours at the most.
You can download the application form at www.dfa.gov.ph/images/OCA/Forms/PassportApplicationForm2015.pdf but they will also be available at the DFA Office.
When you go to the DFA Consular Office, make sure that you have all the documents required together with two photocopies of each document. Dress smart: do not wear shorts, tank tops, spaghetti strap blouse, tube top, slippers or flip flops—they won’t let you in the DFA Office if you do.
Please note that minors (below 18 years old) must be accompanied by at least one parent. Passport Fee is PHP 1,200 for the standard 15 days processing and PHP 1,950 for express 7 days processing.
