Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk said that they are developing a software that will set routes for Tesla cars to always have a close proximity to the company’s “Superchargers,”. These chargers consist of a network of high-speed battery chargers located along major highways and let drivers check their battery status. The car will be able to determine the closest charging stations around the city. Incase the drivers are going outside the range of charging locations, the car will notify them.

Tesla is also developing Model S sedans that allows automatic steering feature which will allow them to drive themselves on highways or on private property.

“Tesla’s system could potentially do more and is technically capable of going from parking lot to parking lot. But that higher level of self-driving ability won’t be available in the early version of the electric car because it’s not safe in neighbourhoods”, said Musk.

The car can also be controlled by the its driver using smartphones. It can also automatically pull itself in or out of a garage using its sensors. The electric car is also equipped with “automatic emergency braking to avoid accidents, blind-spot detection and side-collision warning”.

“We really designed the Model S to be a very sophisticated computer on wheels,” Musk said.
