MobilityCarsVolvo Philippines Holds XC60 SUV Local Preview

First made its debut  at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show,  the much awaited  XC60 premium SUV once again saw light—this time, in an exclusive Crayfish Party organized by Volvo Philippines and the Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. Held on September 2017, the event greeted esteemed guests, including the honorable ambassadors of Scandinavian countries, with a sneak peak of the XC60 which will be launched in the country later this year.

The all new XC60 succeeds the  highly successful original model that had record breaking sales  for the past nine years. Since the original release, the original XC60 held the title of being the bestselling premium mid-sized SUV in Europe.  With already a million units sold globally, the XC60 is behind 30-percent of Volvo’s total global sales.

“We have a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The new XC60 will be no exception. It’s the perfect car for an active lifstyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan,’ said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO, Volvo Car Group.

“Volvo Philippines is proud to give the market a glimpse of the new XC60, and we are confident this Volvo will once again be a strong player in its segment” said Chris Yu of Volvo Philippines

    Infusing comfort and Safety

Sporting the latest in car safety technology, the XC60 is undoubtedly one the safest cars ever made. The newly added Steer Assist feature now joins Volvo’s City Safety system while a new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation helps the driver avoid head-on collisions. Similarly, the Volvo’s new Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) intelligently utilizes the Steer Assist feature to lessen the risks of collisions during lane changes.

“We have focused on building a car that can deliver pleasure to all of your senses—from a commanding view of the road ahead in a beautifully appointed  and calm cabin, to a safe, inspired and confident ride,” said Henrik Green, senior vice president Product & Quality at Volvo Car Group. “We’eve paid particular attention to making life easier for our customers by providing them with the creature comforts and services that take the hassle out of everyday life.”

For a peace of mind, the XC60 will also feature Pilot Assist, the car company’s semi autonomous driver assistance system that enhances steering, acceleration, and braking on well-marked roads up to 130km/h.

    Next generation performance

The new XC60 will be powered by Volvo’s T8 twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid that delivers a horsepower of 407 and an acceleration of 0-100km in just 5.3 seconds. The local offering, on the other hand, will feature a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 8-speed Geartronic transmission; powertrain optimization will give the XC60 190hp and 400Nm of torque.

“We have a wide range of powertrains. The new XC60 will launch with the diesel D4 engine at 190 hp and the D5 with PowerPulse technology delivering 235 hp. We also have the petrol-powered T5 delivering 254 hp and the T6, which with both turbo and superchargers attached, delivers 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque,” added Henrik Green.

Beyond speed and optimization, the XC60 will also feature Volvo’s new CleanZone four-zone climate system to deliver fresh and clean air in the inside of the vehicle. Along with Carplay and Android Auto support, the SUV will also feature improvements on the Volvo On Call app graphics and Sensus, Volvo’s infotainment and connected services offering.

    A bold and sculpted feel

“The XC60 is an SUV not designed to look down on others but to drive. The exterior has an athletic sculpture with a subtle, timeless quality. The interior is a masterful composition of well-resolved architecture, beautiful materials and the very latest technology – all perfectly blended together. The XC60 provides a true Scandinavian experience which will make our customers feel special,” said Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president, Deisn at Volvo Car Group.

Already in production at the Torslanda Plant in Sweden since mid-April, the XC60 is now available for local reservations.
