Palo Alto enhances next-generation security platform

Next-generation security company Palo Alto Networks (PAN) announced advancements to its security platform last March 14, 2017.

The enhancements extend the customer’s ability to enable applications such as SaaS options, content and users safely regardless of location; prevent cyberattacks; simplify security operation management; and fully embrace the capabilities of the cloud securely.

The traditional detect-and-response approach to security, cloud-only security, and silo-ed point products, according to the company, offer limited functionality and threat contextualization.

The enhancements build upon the existing capabilities of the natively engineered platform, Palo Alto has integrated more than 70 new cloud and SaaS features in the next-generation security platform.

The PAN-OS 8.0 expands its security for both public and private clouds including optimized workflow automation and integration with native cloud services. This ensures the same level of security between a customer organization’s physical environment and to AWS, Azure, or other cloud services should the need arise.

The updated version of Palo Alto’s security platform also includes new SaaS application security capabilities including enhanced visibility and interactive dashboards, reporting, security action automation including instant quarantine and data-sharing limitation.

The features increase security and allow real-time monitoring and compliance enforcement capabilities on cloud-based assets. In addition, Palo Alto extends application support such as for Slack and Secure Data Space, language support for DLP and machine learning including German and Japanese, and new data centers established in Europe and Asia, expanding global usage and protection options and at the same time addressing regional data privacy needs.

The company has made improvements on its physical product line with the addition of three new VM-Series virtual firewall models: the VM-50, VM-500, and VM-700, delivering industry-leading performance options ranging from 200 mbps up to 16 gbps of firewall throughput meant to scale up or down based on the customer’s needs and purposes.
