In a world bombarded by stimuli from a plethora of smart devices, people lose time and attention for appreciating the physical world and the real experiences that can be had. Founded by Joe Hollier and Kaiwei Tang, and built by Foxconn, the Light Phone tries to address our exceeding reliance on smart phones. The device works as an extension of the user’s main device, connected through an app which forwards messages and calls to the Light Phone: just messages and calls. Running on a stripped down, Android-based OS with a simple subscription-based 2G connection, the phone stylishly functions as a futuristic version of a 90s phone sans clunk. And should people embrace the Light Phone, maybe then they would stop and smell the roses, or at least quit spamming concerts with lit phones on record.
