The Global Online Association for Learning (GOAL), in partnership with ADEC Innovations and the Commision on Higher Education (CHED), put together Learning Summit 2016 on February 16 to 18, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City with the aim of advancing education in the Philippines.

With the drastic changes in the education scene, the only way to cope is to adapt to these shifts. One of the purposes of GOAL is to bring together parties—government, academe, influencers, and the masses—to create a roadmap towards the actualization of more efficient learning through the utilization of technology. The Learning Summit 2016 is the fulfilment of GOAL’s mission of immersing education and corporate stakeholders in the changing landscape of learning and development in today’s digital age.

The Learning Summit 2016 is a three-day event that brought together influencers and movers in corporate development and education to share their expertise and fresh insights which when applied can help the betterment of education in the Philippines.

Apart from talks, workshops were held to assist participants in identifying their learning needs and choosing which technologies of learning were best suited for their individual and corporate requirements. Meanwhile, plenary sessions gave participants an overview of the impact of digital technology on learning methods around the world and how the Philippines can maximize these emerging opportunities.

During the press conference, ADEC Innovations’ CEO and GOAL founder James Donovan stated that the Philippines poses great potential to be the world’s go-to choice for learning. Elliot Maisie, one of the world’s most influential personalities in eLearning and CEO of the MasieCenter, supplemented this by going on how the Philippines has always been connected. This is our gateway to the realm of learning; we hold in our hands the very tool that allows us to continue to learn. Masie was also one of the keynote speakers of the event and shared core values and proven methods for learning strategies in his talk “Future-Proofing Learning.”

According to Maisie, to be a trailblazer in eLearning, unconventional learning strategies should be embraced, where Skype, video gaming, tablets, and the like are used to enhance traditional teaching. St. Paul University Surigao president Sr. Marie Rosanne Mallillin, added that to be more effective, the academe must be sensitive and responsive to the market it caters. There are many resources to explore and one of those is technology.

Technology when used for education encourages engagement. It’s a platform that bridges gaps and further democratizes education.
