Razer acquires THX

Gaming lifestyle brand Razer announced its acquisition of the majority of assets of San Francisco-based audio company THX Ltd. last October 17.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but both management and employees were brought on-board and Razer promises that THX will continue to operate as an independent entity.

THX Senior Vice President for Audio Research and Development Laurie Fincham said: “For over 30 years, THX has maintained a proud legacy of being one of the leaders in audio technology and certification worldwide. With their focus on quality, design and innovation, Razer supports our vision to optimize and deliver the best audiovisual experiences to audiences worldwide.”

The acquisition follows an active period for growth for THX, expanding its certification program to concerts and live entertainment.

In an official statement, THX says that it will focus on its expansion of the certification program to include immersive audio, HDR, headphones, AR and VR which will be in line with Razer’s interests.

“Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision which THX has championed since its inception more than 30 years ago. This acquisition will allow us to reinforce Razer’s leadership in gaming and extend the brand into broader areas of entertainment, while at the same time empowering THX to develop into a global powerhouse, independently,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer.
