Automobile Central Enterprise, Inc. (ACEI), the official distributor of Volkswagen in the country, teased the attendees of the 5th Philippine International Motor Show with a preview of the Mk7 Golf GTI. Schedule to be launched locally during the first quarter of 2015, this machine is the latest iteration of the beloved four decade-old hot hatch.

The all-new Golf features improved and more aggressive aesthetics which Simon Loasby, Director of Design for Volkswagen China, described as unmistakably VW. It sports a black honeycomb radiator grille with the GTI nameplate and sporty front and rear bumpers complemented by Bi-Xenon headlamps up front and GTI LED tail lamps at the rear. Its form is also made more aerodynamic with the added GTI color-keyed rear spoiler. Wrapping up its exterior are GTI “Austin” alloy wheels and GTI tailpipes.

Its interior is also decorated in GTI-exclusive parts such as the 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls; leatherette door and side trim inserts; illuminated front scuff plates; leather gearshift knob; and checkered black inserts for the dashboard and center consoles. Its sports seats are also given the premium treatment with “Clark” fabric and “Alcantara” bolster materials.

The Golf GTI’s heart is a 2.0 TSI 4-cylinder Turbo Fuel-injected gasoline engine capable of a maximum output of 220 Ps at 4,500 to 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,500-4,400 rpm, mated to a 6-speed direct-shift gearbox transmission with a front wheel drive and electromechanical power steering.

Premium creature comforts include an Anti-lock Brake System with Brake Assistant; Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold function; Rear View Camera with acoustic warning signal; dynamic cornering lights; anti-theft alarm system “Plus”; wheel locks; cruise control and speed limiter; and Keyless-Go entry/exit and Push Start System.

If the above piqued your interest, then you’d be glad to know that Volkswagen is currently taking pre-orders for the Golf GTI. It will be available in black, blue, grey, red, and white color options, with a price tag estimated to be slightly above the PHP 2-million mark.
