Earlier today, Samsung Philippines unveiled its newest flagship tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S  8.4” and 10.5”. The event dubbed “Samsung Galaxy Tab S Apartment” saw the Tab S performing in weight, slimness, and display challenges in order to showcase its best selling points including its octacore processor, impossibly thin 6.6 mm frame, and the coup de grace to competitors, its Super AMOLED display.

Vision Redefined (my cellphone camera doesn’t give it justice)

Both versions of the Tab S boast incredibly gorgeous 2560×1600 high resolution Super AMOLED screens equating to a pixel density of 359 ppi for the 8.4” variant and 228 ppi for its bigger brother. These result in super clear and detailed pictures that come *this* close to reproducing nature’s color palette. Playing around with the tablet, I found the images to be sharp and crisp with great color depth thanks to its 100,000:1 contrast ratio. HD viewing on the Tab S is a definite pleasure that beats most conventional LCD displays on the market.

    Experience Reinvented

Holding the tablet for hours at a time won’t be a problem with its 6.6 mm thin body and 298g heft for the 8.4” and 467g bulk of the 10.5”. The tablet design is reminiscent of the Galaxy S5 with the physical home button at front and the dimpled faux leather back.

The thinness of the tablets did not hinder Samsung from packing them with powerhouse specs. Driving the brilliant display is the octacore Samsung Exynos 5 (1.9GHz quadcore for heavy tasks and 1.3GHz quadcore for light work), and 3GB of RAM. It runs a modified Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box which features Samsung’s user interface and preinstalled apps. The tablets are also powered by a 4,900mAh battery for the 8.4” and 7,900mAh juice for the 10.5”, both enough to last beyond a regular work day. Rounding off the Tab S experience are its 8MP back CMOS snapper, 2.1MP front facing CMOS camera, and 16GB internal memory that is MicroSD expandable up to 128GB.

    Value for Money

The Tab S 8.4”costs Php 24,990 while the 10.5” carries a Php 29,990 price tag. Considering the specs, form factor, and lineage of the tablets, these are reasonable prices for arguably two of the best tablets of this time. To sweeten up the deal and to sway those unwilling to shell out big money, Samsung is throwing in a book cover and 3,100mAh battery pack (all worth Php 4,800) for purchases made between July 11 to 13, 2014. On top of this offer, customers who purchase a Tab S between 10AM to 12NN tomorrow (July 12) are entitled to a fish bowl draw where they can win Samsung gizmos such as the NX Mini, Gear Neo, and even the Galaxy S5!

Interested buyers can visit the Samsung Galaxy Tab S Apartment at the ground floor of SM Megamall Fashion Hall to test drive the Tab S and avail of the promos above.
