MobilityMitsubishi Motors Philippines teams up with Visayan Electric Company for i-MiEV evaluation

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) recently sent over an i-MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) unit to the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) for the company to review.

VECO is the second largest electric utility in the Philippines. It serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga, and four municipalities of the greater part of Metro Cebu–Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.

Under the demo program, the i-MiEV unit lent to VECO will be thoroughly studied and evaluated. To test this zero emission pure electric car’s performance, it will be driven along the roads of Cebu. After putting it through its paces, VECO will then be able to make an assessment of its power requirements, including cost and other technical related issues from the information they were able to gather.

This cooperation also aims to provide Filipinos better knowledge, awareness, and appreciation towards the EV technology.

“We are pleased to cooperate with VECO on the evaluation of our i-MiEV, pure electric car.” Froilan Dytianquin, MMPC FVP for Marketing, said. “We are also hoping that we can include VECO as one of our partners in raising awareness of the public that pure electric vehicles in addition to being environment friendly, can be viable for daily use,” Dytianquin added.

The i-MiEV is an electric eco-vehicle launched by Mitsubishi Motors in 2009. Aside from being environment-friendly, the i-MiEV is also very efficient and economical with its cost per kilometer to drive being just one third of a gasoline-run vehicle. It also bagged the “Environment Special Grand Prize” at the 25th International Automobile festival in Paris for its zero carbon dioxide tailpipe emissions that greatly contributes to climate protection.

The i-MiEV is available in various countries and regions all over the world, including Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, Estonia, the United States, and Canada.
