    NAIA operations, passenger experience enhanced by new vehicles

    Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), operated by New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), has introduced a new fleet of vehicles to support its ground operations, improve passenger convenience, and ensure the safe and efficient flow of movements at the airport.

    The new additions include two new ambulances equipped with advanced medical tools and staffed by trained paramedics to provide swift medical assistance when needed. 

    Three “follow-me” vehicles have also been added to guide aircraft to their designated parking positions more efficiently, helping minimize taxi times and contributing to smoother operations. 

    Four inter-terminal coasters have also been deployed to facilitate seamless airside transfers, providing passengers with a more comfortable and efficient way to move between terminals, particularly those with connecting flights or mobility challenges.

    “These vehicles are essential to support efficient operations and improve the overall passenger experience at NAIA. They complement NAIA’s existing fleet and reflect our commitment to providing a seamless and reliable airport experience,” NNIC president Ramon S. Ang said. 

    The deployment of these new vehicles comes as NAIA continues to experience rapid growth. For the whole of 2024, NAIA welcomed a record-breaking 50.1 million passengers—a 10.43% increase from 2023. 

    Having additional vehicles ensures smooth operations during peak periods, maintenance schedules, and emergencies. It also allows NAIA to maintain high service standards while prioritizing passenger safety and comfort.

    In 2025, we can expect a significant shift in how brands approach user authentication, driven by the emergence of new messaging protocols like RCS, Silent Network Authentication (SNA), and Passkeys. SMS OTPs won’t disappear entirely but will become a mere thread in organizations’ broader, more flexible authentication strategy.

    Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all solution, brands will tailor verification methods to suit different scenarios and user needs. RCS, for example, enables secure, encrypted, end-to-end messaging that eliminates the need for a code — users can simply click to approve their identity.     PH’s digital lending market to potentially exceed USD 1 billion in 2025

    The digital lending market in the Philippines — consisting of duly registered non-bank digital lenders and digital banks — could exceed USD1-billion in the second half of 2025, with the likelihood of growth at an accelerated pace due to the high demand for online technologies from consumers.

    A new analysis from Digido revealed that in terms of market structure, non-bank digital lenders are expected to make up 55.2% or USD556-million during that timeframe, while digital banks make up 44.8% or USD451-million.

    The forecasted billion-dollar market size is considerably higher than the USD796-million expected by end-2024 and USD693-million tallied in 2023.

    During the ten months of 2024, both non-bank digital lenders and digital banks generated 58.9 million app downloads. Should dynamics improve or be maintained, Digido expects the total number of downloads for both non-bank digital lenders and digital banks to have reached approximately 73.5 million in 2024, 56.4% more than tallied in 2023.

    From 2013 to 2023, the Philippines’ digital lending market has been growing at an average of 28% (or USD68-million) per year.

    Commenting on the findings, Digido business development manager Rose Arreco said, “Our latest findings affirm the majority of Filipinos’ growing pivot towards digital sources of credit as part of their personal finance management. We are optimistic that these lending segments will be able to maintain their high growth rates in view of its accessibility for the financially underserved, progressive government support, and various projects promoting further digitalization.”

    “This growth trend is also largely determined by the fact that a third of the country’s population is from Generation Z — a segment certainly ready to fully accept innovative solutions in the field of financial technologies for mobile applications,” Arreco added.

    Ninja Van, URC announce B2B logistics partnership

    Tech-enabled logistics company Ninja Van Philippines is working with Universal Robina Corporation (URC), one of the largest branded consumer food and beverage companies in the country, for the efficient restocking and distribution of URC products in key regions. 

    Under the trial phase of the partnership, Ninja Van is utilizing Ninja Restock — its flagship B2B logistics service — to pick up, sort, and then distribute various URC products to key retail points in South Luzon. Ninja Restock leverages Ninja Van’s e-commerce express logistics network to enable URC to serve a variety of retail touchpoints — from big-box retailers like malls to low-volume, small-door formats like convenience stores and local grocery stores.

    “Ninja Restock is an innovation that aims to help fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies and other big brands to stay agile with the evolving nature of retail distribution,” noted Ninja Van Philippines country head Vin Perez. “Current models of distribution are beset with a lot of inefficiencies, and are unable to serve ever-smaller retail doors like convenience stores, drugstores, and local groceries,” he adds. 

    With Restock, Ninja Van is now able to co-load and deliver direct-to-store to major retailers’ branches across South Luzon — a boon to many manufacturers and brands who usually have to endure longer wait times to fill a full truckload (FTL) before they can restock various stores. “Even if it’s just one case or one pallet, you need to send out, you can co-load with other products, pay only for the space you need, and we can get to your desired destination more speedily,” Perez added.

    Coming on the heels of URC’s Ninja Restock trial is a visit by the entire URC regional management team to Ninja Van’s Cabuyao warehouse, the Ninja Van Group’s largest automated sorting facility in Southeast Asia. Led by URC president and chief executive officer Irwin Lee, the URC team toured the warehouse as part of their leadership conference learning immersion around digital transformation and “Factory of the Future.”

    “In URC we believe in the power of technology to improve the way we do things, and we are constantly seeking ways to deliver value in all stages of our operations, from supply chain and production to distribution and retail,” Lee highlighted. 

    With Ninja Restock, URC products get picked up, sorted, and then rolled out for last-mile delivery to various retail formats at speeds comparable to e-commerce purchases. “We welcome the opportunity to work together with a partner that shares our vision for tech-enablement and efficiency,” he added. 

    Scan-to-print technology

    As Ninja Van gears up to serve more FMCGs for B2B services, it has also launched a new scan-to-print virtual fulfillment technology that minimizes human error in sorting. “Upon pickup from the shipper with case or box-level information of different SKUs, our system automatically assigns each box or case a unique tracking ID containing the designated store,” notes Perez. 

    Traditional distribution models often require manual consolidation of different SKUs into a single box or case assigned to one store, which can be tedious and prone to errors. With Ninja Van’s scan-to-print technology, each product case or box received gets automatically routed to the planned restock destination. 

    This virtual fulfillment capability gives real-time visibility to the shipper on the status of the different product SKUs for distribution, enabling them to map as well as plan for future restock runs. This further provides insight on future sales or seasonal campaigns. 

    Perez noted, however, that this new technology is still in the trial stages, and further tweaks are expected as the organization learns from actual deliveries. “We developed this because we saw how difficult it was for many FMCGs to load and sort many different SKUs together to their desired destinations — and we always want to solve problems together with our partners,” he added.
