In the efforts to optimize Twitter for the use of larger markets, the social media giant has launched Twitter Lite, a fast and data-friendly web-based application. Whether it be staying up to date with news and current entertainment trends, or simply interacting with friends and family, Twitter Lite now offers a more accessible way to connect.
Twitter Lite is the company’s response to the barriers that hinder seamless communication. Patrick Traughber, product manager of Twitter said,“Every day, millions of people in the Philippines use Twitter to see what’s happening right now. However, there are several barriers to using Twitter, including slow mobile networks, expensive data plans, and lack of storage on mobile devices.” The web-based application now loads quicker, minimizes data usage, and takes up less that 1 MB on mobile devices.
Twitter Lite still comes with key features found in its mobile application, but provides a better seamless experience. It boasts a mobile experience with up to 30% faster launch time, and a reduction for data usage up to 70% with data saver mode turn on. The web-application works just like its mobile application counterpart: there’s tweets, direct messages, push notifications, offline access, safe-browsing etc.
Twitter Lite is now globally available via mobile.twitter.com. It supports 42 languages, including Filipino, and is accessible via any device with a web browser.
