Those of you hoping for Facebook to officially make their own phone? Yeah, you guys better sit down. In their earnings call earlier this week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg has officially spoken out against the rumors that keep circulating that they are going to make their own phone. The statement above came right after an analyst asked the Facebook CEO about their mobile strategy. If you remember, there have been attempts to fully integrate Facebook into the smartphone experience (HTC’s ChaCha come to mind) but there hasn’t been a fully realized smartphone built from the ground up by Facebook as of yet. So why all the persistent rumors? Well, it’s possible that Facebook is developing a mobile platform that would leverage other people’s hardware and their software, though that’s a bit of a stretch – it really doesn’t make sense for the company to jump into an already crowded smartphone OS market. There could be another possibility – Zuckerburg may be fibbing just a little bit to keep their competitors guessing as to what they’re actually up to.
