The Smart Araneta Coliseum is ringing in the New Year with a bark as it hosts the Philippine Circuit Show 2019 from January 10 until January 13.

Dubbed as the biggest dog show in Asia, the Philippine Circuit, organized by the Philippine Canine Club Inc., is now on its eighth year and continues to feature some of the cutest, most unique and lovable dogs in the world. Admission to the public is free.

The exclusive showcase is happening at the Big Dome for the fourth straight year. The Araneta Center, the country’s premier lifestyle hub, officially became a pet-friendly destination last year through its successful Pet Pals program.

    Best of the best

The Philippine Circuit Show draws the best of the best among purebred dogs from the Philippines and other parts of the globe.

This year, 568 entries have been registered with the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Italy, China and Thailand sending in the biggest delegations.

They will compete in 12 shows across those four days, where they will be judged according to their appearance and performance based on their breed standard by jurors from Asia, Europe and the Americas. Up for grabs are titles such as Philippine Champion, Southeast Asian Champion, Asia Pacific Champion and FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) Champion.

Last year, the Labrador retriever named Sunshadow Black Tie Affair AKA Chicco was one of the most awarded Philippine-bred dogs.

    Treat for dog lovers

Aside from watching the shows, dog- lovers are in for a treat as they may even have the chance to interact and take pictures with the dogs at the Smart Araneta Coliseum’s Green Gate lobby. They may even ask tips on how to breed and take care of these pets from the owners and handlers.

The public will be thrilled to see dog breeds such as the ever-popular Siberian huskies, golden retrievers, Labradors, Pekingese, Welsh Corgi Pembrokes, Pomeranians, and poodles. They will also be awed by rare breeds such as the bichon frise, the affenpinscher, Caucasian shepherds, and pharaoh hounds, among many others.

On Saturday noon, various dog entries will also wow audiences as they partake in the agility test where they hurdle various obstacles.

Those who wish to bring their pets to the Araneta Center may secure their Pet Pals pass for free from the concierge of the Gateway Mall, Ali Mall or Farmers Plaza.
