For more than half of his life, Marlon, 22, has been tearing it up on the fast lane.

Despite the danger and hard work that comes with the sport, Marlon is bent on doing all it takes to better his craft and further his career. “It’s the sport that I love and I feel extremely passionate about it. I can’t see myself doing anything else,” he raves. “I feel like myself when I’m on the race track.”

Marlon has already won several international races in his more than seven years of competing, but admittedly, one of the highest points in his career was when he finished on top of the podium at the GP3 Series held in Monaco last year. For the first time in history, the Philippine flag was hoisted at the awarding ceremonies, gloriously accompanied by our national anthem. Marlon is the first Southeast Asian racer to join the Lotus F1 Team as a junior driver, and this year, he will be competing in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. Marlon is also the first Filipino driver to be invited by the Renault team to formally test an F1 car, and was able to sit behind the wheel and drive it for 350km with four changes of tires at the Paul Ricard track in France. Being the prominent Pinoy in today’s international racing scene, Marlon was given the privilege of being the designated driver of an F1 car that will be flown in by the Lotus Team for the Manila Speed Show, which will take place from May 3 to 5.

Still fiery and ambitious, Marlon tells us that things definitely don’t stop there. Now, more than ever, he is determined to whiz towards the pinnacle of his game and stay on top. “In the next five years, I’d like to have a full-time race seat in F1,” he hopes. “My goal is not just to make it, I want to stay there and make a name for myself.”
