While there has been plenty of leaks of Google’s upcoming Nexus smartphone (which is widely rumored to be based off of LG’s Optimus G design), the search giant has managed to keep their upcoming 10.1-inch tablet a secret. Well, mostly. The people over at BriefMobile has managed to get their paws on one ahead of the October 29 announcement date, and has managed to take pictures and figured out what the hardware of the device is.
Rumors have said that the Google Nexus 10 tablet was made to compliment the smaller Nexus 7 by providing a high-end option for people who enjoy the Android tablet experience. The Nexus 10’s specs are indicative of that – it sports Samsung’s dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU, running at 1.7GHz, complimented by 2GB of memory. The 10.1-inch screen has a resolution of 2560×1600, which means it’s roughly the same as the 4th generation iPad when it comes to screen resolution.
It’s also rumored that the Nexus 10 will ship with the newest Android version on the block, 4.2, or Key Lime Pie. According to the rumors, Android 4.2 will have an updated gallery, multiple user accounts, and a new quick settings menu accessible from the notifications pane, though nothing have yet been confirmed.
One of the biggest questions now is price. While we’ve seen that Google is willing to cut their sales margin to sell tablets, it’s still not a guarantee that the Nexus 10 will be priced as low as their Nexus 7 tablet. We think that Google will need to price their tablet below Apple’s current $499 starting price for their base iPad, though it’s not going to hurt sales if they start selling the things at $400.
