Galaxy Microsystems unveiled its entry into the Android tablet arena: the Galaxy Galapad, retailing at PHP 9,995 in the Philippines.

With a big emphasis on enhancing the mobile gaming experience, the 7-inch Galapad is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core graphics processing unit (GPU).

The Tegra 3 GPU features what Nvidia calls the “4-Plus-1” design, where there is a fifth core for the purpose of saving battery in addition to the four performance cores.

The Galapad runs Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, has 1GB RAM, and uses a Li-ion 3500mAh battery. It also features a 7-inch IPS display panel with a 1200 x 600 resolution and 10 capacitive touch points.

Although it doesn’t come with a rear camera, the Galapad is equipped with a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera. A miniHDMI port and Bluetooth connectivity are also onboard.

The device comes in two color variants (black and white) and two storage capacity variants (8GB and 16GB).

Only the Wi-Fi model of the Galapad will be initially available in the country, but Galaxy claims that they will soon be releasing the 3G variant of the 7-inch Galapad, as well as 10.1-inch and dual-SIM models.
