Sony targets those with an active lifestyle with its newest offering in the Handycam line, the HDR-GWP88—a waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and freeze-proof Full HD handheld video camera equipped with a built-in LED projector.

The HDR-GWP88 was created with adventurers and extreme sports enthusiasts in mind, which is why it is designed to be extra-durable and to be functional even under extreme conditions. It is waterproof up to ten (10) meters, shockproof up to five (5) meters, freeze-proof down to -10oC, and dustproof.

Black-FrontOn the front face of the HDR-GWP88 is an integrated flash, plus a “self-record” button, which is meant to make it easier for users to take a photo or video of themselves.

Packed with an EXMOR R CMOS sensor, the HDR-GWP88 is capable of shooting videos in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution at 60fps. It can also shoot stills at 20.4 megapixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9, or at 15.3 megapixels using a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Although Sony includes a free wide-angle conversion adapter in the retail package, the fixed lens on the HDR-GWP88 is a Sony G Lens with a focal range of 29.8mm-298.0mm (16:9, 35mm equivalent) and an aperture range of F/1.8 to F/3.4. The G Lens features 10x optical zoom, but the camera can go as far as 120x (digital zoom). Zooming is done by thumbing the dial on the control area of the camera.
