Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus hands-on and first impressions

Samsung’s first tablet, the Galaxy Tab, was the company’s first ever entry into the world of slates. Since then, the company has produced tablets in a multitude of sizes, from 10.1 to 8.9, and has dabbled in the smartphone-tablet hybrid genre that the recently released Galaxy Note belongs to. Samsung apparently is revisiting the device that got their tablet efforts off the ground in the form of the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus.

The Tab 7 Plus takes a lot of design cues from it’s bigger brother, the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The white back and silver plastic trimmings are there, along with a thin profile of 9.9mm which is an improvement over the old Tab’s 12mm thickness. The 7-inch screen has improved as well, and though it retains the old display resolution of the original (600 x 1024), the Tab 7 Plus now uses a PLS LCD capacitive touchscreen rather than a TFT based one.

Internally, the Tab 7 Plus is better too – it sports a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with Android 3.2 right out of the bat, instead of Froyo that was in the original.

The Tab 7 Plus still retains the original’s 3-megapixel camera, though the front facing camera has received a slight upgrade to 2 megapixels as opposed to the original’s 1.3.

The Tab 7 Plus is also capable of taking a SIM card, and is fully 3G capable.
