Samsung officially launched the newest addition to its NX line of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, the NX300. The NX300 is a Smart mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera that is equipped with a 3.31-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED display, a 20.3-megapixel APS-C-sized sensor and the new DRIMe IV imaging engine. Apart from being able to share and transfer photos and videos via Wi-Fi connection, the NX300 also has built-in NFC that lets you transfer content from the camera to your smartphone or tablet just by tapping your mobile device on the camera. Samsung particularly highlights the device’s super-fast shutter speed at a maximum of 1/6000th of a second and its hybrid AF system that combines contrast and phase detection AF.

We’ve been told that the basic kit—which includes the NX300 body, an 18-55mm NX-mount iFunction lens, and the compatible external flash unit—retails at PHP 36,990. It is also offered in a bundle that includes a 20-50mm lens instead of the 18-55mm lens, but we haven’t received any word of its pricing. We’ve also been told that it is compatible with a total of 16 NX-mount lenses, and that one of them is a 45mm 2D/3D lens that enables you to shoot photos and videos directly in 3D format.

Together with the launch of the device, Samsung also introduced the three lifestyle ambassadors of the NX300 in the Philippines: (L-R in photo above) Iron Man 7.3 Philippine record holder Noy Jopson, national record holder in Olympic Distance Nikko Huelgas, and 4-time Filipina Elite champion in Iron Man 7.3 Philippines Monica Torres. During the event, sports photographer Ben Chan showcased the photos he took of the three triathletes with the NX300, utilizing its ultra-fast shutter speed.

We reviewed the Samsung NX300 in our June issue, so be sure to get a copy when it hits the stands. We’ll also be posting a more detailed version of that review with sample photos and videos. Stay tuned, gadgeteers!
