The QX-100
I’m not a photographer. My forays into the dark art of capturing images have always been short because I could never be bothered to carry around the damn camera. This line of work does require us to take photos on a regular basis, whether event or on-the-spot beauty shots of devices, and I realize that it might not always be the best idea to drag a photographer along, as that means another person with which to socialize. I just can’t handle that much interaction.
Sony read my mind when they came up with the QX-10 and QX-100 lens-type cameras. It’s really more an accessory than a camera, as this barrel of a device is meant to pair with any iOS or Android smartphone. The phone then serves as the viewfinder, bumping your imaging abilities past what a solo smartphone can deliver.
The two lenses pair with your phone via NFC or Wi-Fi direct, and save images both on the smartphone and the camera, so you have a copy safe in the lens, and another on the phone, ready to instantly share. The camera can either clamp on to your phone, or used on its own, physically detached from your mobile device.
The QX-100 gives you a large 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor with 20.2 megapixels, a removable battery, and a wide-aperture, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens, 3.6x optical zoom with Steady shot and Sony’s powerful BIONZ processor to give you vivid, life-like colors and sharp images. Both devices can also record HD video. Sneaky.
The QX-10
The QX-10 is available for PHP 10,999, and the QX-100 can be yours for PHP 23,999. These aren’t bad, considering they give you more or less the same image quality as the RX-10 and RX-100, respectively. Those two cost quite a a bit more than the lens cameras.
