UMA Racing Yamaha Philippine team had a great first race weekend last March 6-8 in the Asia Road Racing Championships 2020 as they earn much-needed points to start their championship campaign at the Sepang International Racing Circuit in Malaysia.
Team veteran Masato Fernando almost earned a podium finish in Race 1, keeping in pace with race leaders throughout the laps before ending in at a respectable 9th at the UB150 category. His teammate and team rookie Kerwin Chang took the opportunity to show what he’s capable of, ending the first race at 22nd place two places higher than his starting spot at the grid.
The team looked to carry momentum in the second race as with Fernando going a top at 6th place before an accident between his competition also knocked him out of the race losing at a chance for a battle at the points. Teammate Chang also failed to deliver points to the team finish behind the top 10. It was fellow Pinoy John Emerson Inguito racing for 4S1M Yamaha who surprised the pack with his 5th place finish.
Prodigy Kyle McKinley Paz, who was offered a seat at Yamaha’s GEN BLU Racing Team, looked to mark his mark in a much tougher and powerful category. The wonder kid looked impressive in his debut finishing at 8th in the first race. Paz once again showed his speed in the second race, improving his 8th place finish to a 7th despite a shortened race due to an accident.
