The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) reported 939,528 motorcycle sales during the first six months of 2026, representing a 3.58% increase from the 907,054 units sold during the same period last year.
Although market conditions became more challenging after an exceptionally strong first half in 2025, the industry remained on a growth trajectory. According to MDPPA, motorcycles continue to serve as an essential and practical mobility solution for many Filipinos, supporting daily commuting, work, and business activities.
Strong opening quarter supports first-half growth
The industry’s positive first-half performance was driven largely by a strong start to the year.
Sales reached 496,868 units in the first quarter, an 11.6% increase compared with the same period in 2025. In contrast, second-quarter sales totaled 442,660 units, down 4.2% from the 462,007 units recorded a year earlier. Despite the softer second quarter, the gains achieved during the opening months of the year kept overall first-half sales in positive territory.
Automatic motorcycles remain the largest segment
Automatic motorcycles continued to account for the largest share of the market, with 655,004 units sold during the first half of 2026. MDPPA attributed their continued popularity to their convenience, fuel efficiency, and suitability for everyday commuting.
Business motorcycles followed with 148,989 units, reflecting the continued importance of motorcycles in supporting delivery services, small businesses, and other livelihood activities.
The remaining market consisted of 107,632 mopeds, 24,346 street motorcycles, 2,994 big bikes, and 563 units across other motorcycle categories.
Industry remains optimistic
According to MDPPA, the first-half results demonstrate the industry’s ability to sustain growth despite a higher comparison base and evolving market conditions.
“The first half of the year reflects the resilience of the Philippine motorcycle industry,” said Erwin D. Estrada, president of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association. “While market conditions have become more challenging compared with last year’s exceptionally strong performance, motorcycles continue to meet the everyday mobility needs of Filipinos. The industry’s continued growth demonstrates that consumers recognize the value motorcycles provide through affordability, fuel efficiency, and dependable transportation for work, business, and daily life.”
Looking ahead, MDPPA said industry analysts remain optimistic about the sector’s long-term outlook, supported by sustained demand for affordable mobility solutions and the industry’s ability to adapt to changing economic conditions.
In Summary
The Philippine motorcycle industry posted modest but positive growth during the first half of 2026, with sales rising 3.58% to 939,528 units. Strong first-quarter performance offset a softer second quarter, while automatic motorcycles remained the dominant segment. MDPPA said the results underscore the continued role of motorcycles as an affordable and dependable transportation option for many Filipinos.
