TP in the Philippines has expanded its Skills Training to Employment Program (TP STEP) with a new AI literacy component designed to prepare near-hires for the changing demands of the business process industry.

The enhanced program is being implemented in partnership with CyberGuardiansPH and integrates AI Ready ASEAN learning modules into the existing TP STEP curriculum. Participants now receive foundational and practical training in artificial intelligence, digital responsibility, and emerging workplace technologies alongside employability and customer experience skills.

TP STEP participants complete a 15-day learning journey that combines job-readiness training with skills relevant to customer experience and business services roles.

The addition of AI literacy gives trainees greater exposure to tools and concepts that are becoming more common in technology-enabled workplaces. The aim is to help participants understand how AI can be used responsibly while developing the critical thinking and digital awareness needed to work alongside increasingly automated systems.

“As AI continues to reshape industries globally, it is important that workforce development programs evolve alongside these advancements,” said Rachel Cacabelos, vice president for human resources at TP in the Philippines.

“By integrating AI literacy into TP STEP, we are helping ensure that more applicants gain meaningful exposure to the technologies that are becoming part of everyday operations in the customer experience and business services sector.”

Building pathways into IT-BPM

TP STEP is conducted in partnership with the Pasig local government and is designed to improve employability among aspiring professionals and members of local communities.

The program provides industry-relevant training and pathways to opportunities in the IT-BPM sector, where digital transformation and AI-enabled systems are becoming more closely integrated into daily operations. Participants who complete the program graduate with a broader combination of workplace, customer experience, and digital skills.

The AI-focused modules also reflect how TP’s own operations are evolving, with AI-enabled tools increasingly used alongside human expertise, empathy, and critical thinking in customer experience and business services.

AI Ready ASEAN brings a regional framework

The training draws from AI Ready ASEAN, a regional initiative launched by the ASEAN Foundation with support from Google.org. CyberGuardiansPH serves as one of the initiative’s local implementing partners.

AI Ready ASEAN is designed to equip people across ASEAN member states with essential AI skills, including responsible technology use and digital awareness. Bringing those modules into TP STEP gives participants access to a regional training framework while keeping the learning tied to practical employment needs.

“AI readiness and cybersecurity awareness are becoming essential competencies in today’s digital economy,” said Paolo Sangil, executive director of CyberGuardiansPH.

“Through this partnership, we hope to help empower more Filipinos with practical knowledge that will support both their employability and responsible participation in an increasingly AI-enabled world.”

Preparing a future-ready workforce

The expanded TP STEP program forms part of TP in the Philippines’ broader efforts around inclusive talent development, digital upskilling, and workforce readiness as the company marks 30 years of operations in the country.

By integrating AI literacy into a skills-to-employment pathway, the program addresses a growing challenge for the IT-BPM sector: preparing entry-level talent not only for current roles, but also for workplaces where AI tools are becoming part of everyday processes.
