Why the POCO F6 is this year’s gaming flagship killer

TechnologySmartphones & TabletsWhy the POCO F6 is this year’s gaming flagship killer

POCO has always tried and succeeded in developing phones that provide flagship-level performance at wallet-friendly prices. Its latest phone, the POCO F6, continues this trend by squeezing in elite-level innards at a sub-PHP 25,000 selling point making it perfect for discerning wallet-conscious gamers. But what exactly makes the POCO F6 a flagship killer perfect for gamers?

    Top-tier spec sheet

The POCO F6 beats on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, a bonafide flagship killer released just this first quarter of 2024, ensuring reliable performance even a few years down the line. This newly minted 4nm octa-core chipset features three Cortex-A520 cores clocked at a maximum 2.0GHz; four Cortex-A720 cores topping out at 2.8GHz; and a high-performance Cortex-X4 core at a blazing 3.0GHz. It also has a top-tier Adreno 735 graphics processor and is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM for multitasking.

As of writing, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is among the top 10 mobile chipsets around based on various technical review sites. This makes the POCO F6 an undeniable performer which can keep up with the best of them no matter the gaming workload.

Complementing this processor is a 6.67-inch CrystalRes 1.5K Flow AMOLED DotDisplay with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz touch sampling rate ensuring ultra responsive gaming performance. The eye candy does not stop there as the POCO F6 boasts up to 2,400 nits of peak brightness for visibility; 100% DCI-P3 coverage for color vibrance and accuracy; and 1920Hz PWM dimming to help with eye fatigue during long gaming sessions.

Lastly, the POCO F6 is equipped with dual stereo speakers—one at the top and one at the bottom—for a loud and immersive gaming audio experience.

Power that can actually break a benchmark

On paper, the POCO F6’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is an undoubted powerhouse. However, what is surprising is that it can actually break a benchmark and score more than the software can display.

But first, its performance on the benchmarks that it did not break. The POCO F6 scored 3,019 in 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme 4K UHD test, which most other phones struggle to run; 15,042 on PCMark Work 3.0; 1,882 on Geekbench 6 CPU single-core; 4,730 on Geekbench 6 CPU multi-core; 8,773 on Geekbench 6 GPU OpenCL; and 927.05 MB/s and 765.22 MB/s on sequential reads and sequential writes on the Cross Platform Disk Test. It is as good as it can get at its price point, and actually even beyond as it blows its peers right out of the water with its sheer computing power.

In fact, it is so powerful that the typical 3D Mark Wildlife non-4K UHD test spit out a “Maxed Out!” rating, noting that the POCO F6 was “too powerful for this test.” That is not supposed to happen at this segment, but that’s apparently par for the course for the POCO F6.

Doesn’t stutter even on demanding titles

Moving on to actual gaming scenarios, the POCO F6 remains the steamroller that it is across popular games. Genshin Impact—arguably one of the most demanding Android games today—with every setting maxed out and 60fps mode turned on rendered silky smooth gameplay even with demanding skybox views. Diablo Immortal, another performance-punishing title, saw the same unbothered performance out of the POCO F6 even with everything maxed out, image resolution at high, and 60fps mode turned on. NBA 2K Mobile with maxed out graphics settings was also easy pickings.

Of course, popular and lighter multiplayer games, MOBAs, and FPSs are likewise no match for the Poco F6. Mobile Legends: Bang BangCall of Duty Mobile, and Pokémon Unite all ran like butter even with tons of action going on at the same time.

Complementing the powerful hardware is the POCO F6’s Wildboost 3.0 software optimizer for better, smoother performance during gaming sessions. With hardware, software, and display capabilities like it has, the POCO F6 will rarely stutter.

    Game-breaking price tag

Not only does the POCO F6 break benchmarks and run demanding games without breaking a sweat, it also comes with a price tag that will make its competition cry. Coming in at just PHP 21,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, and PHP 24,999 for the 12GB RAM and the 512GB storage variant, the POCO F6 brings so much value to those looking to squeeze every last drop of gaming performance out of their hard-earned Peso.

But it’s more than a one-trick pony. The POCO F6 also has impressive dual rear cameras, respectable battery life, speedy 90W fast charging, a robust build with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and IP64 dust—and water-resistance, and lots more for gamers looking for an all-around mobile driver.
