Grab has been recognized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) as one of its “Bayani sa Last-Mile” awardees for helping bring digital services closer to Filipino consumers, merchants, and delivery-partners.

The recognition also highlights the company’s efforts to support digital transformation and expand participation in the digital economy among Filipino entrepreneurs and platform workers.

Recognizing digital transformation at the last mile

The award was presented during the Digital Bayanihan Awards: A Decade of Digital Transformation and Building the Future Together, held on June 30, 2026, at the Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City.

The event concluded National ICT Month 2026 and marked DICT’s 10th anniversary under the theme “Isang Dekadang Digital: Konektado sa Puso at Serbisyo.” Grab was recognized alongside private-sector organizations, government partners, local government units, and other stakeholders that have contributed to the country’s digital transformation.

For Grab, last-mile delivery has developed into more than a logistics service. The company said it links digital platforms to everyday needs by helping consumers access goods, enabling small businesses to serve wider markets, and connecting delivery partners with flexible earning opportunities.

Ronald Roda, managing director of Grab Philippines, said the last mile is where the effects of digital transformation become tangible for consumers, merchants, and delivery-partners.

“Last-mile delivery is where digital transformation becomes real for many Filipinos. It is when a small business can serve more customers, when a family can receive what they need more conveniently, and when a delivery-partner can access livelihood opportunities through technology.”

Roda said Grab remains committed to working with the government to help build a more inclusive digital economy that creates opportunities across the platform’s different communities.

Expanding livelihood opportunities

The recognition comes as Grab continues working toward its commitment to help generate 500,000 livelihood opportunities for Filipinos through its platform.

According to the company, it has already created new livelihood opportunities equivalent to 73% of its five-year target, placing it on track to reach the goal ahead of schedule.

These opportunities include work for delivery-partners as well as support for merchants participating in the digital economy. Through the platform, small businesses can reach customers beyond their immediate locations, while delivery-partners can connect with demand through technology.

Helping MSMEs adopt digital tools

Grab is also supporting the digitalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises through Grab Asenso: A Digital Diskarte Program, its flagship public-private initiative.

Endorsed by DICT and participating local governments, the program combines mobile-first learning with practical merchant tools available through the GrabMerchant app.

Through the Grab Asenso Learning Caravan, participating MSMEs receive training in:

  • Mobile-first digital marketing
  • Financial growth planning
  • Responsible use of artificial intelligence tools for business
  • Improving their online presence
  • Understanding customer demand
  • Building more sustainable digital operations

The program is designed to help entrepreneurs use their smartphones not only for daily business management but also as tools for reaching customers and expanding their operations.

Grab Asenso also introduces merchants to tools such as the Grab Merchant AI Assistant, which can help develop promotions, improve product descriptions, and respond to customer trends. Digital payment solutions are also included to make cashless transactions more accessible to small businesses.

Turning connectivity into community benefits

Grab said its programs reflect the principle that digital transformation should create measurable benefits for Filipino communities.

For merchants, delivery services and digital tools can support business continuity, widen customer reach, and strengthen resilience. Consumers gain more convenient access to products and services, while delivery-partners receive flexible livelihood opportunities connected to customer demand through the platform.

Henry Aguda, secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, emphasized that technology should ultimately be measured by the opportunities it creates for people. “Ang teknolohiya ay hindi lang tungkol sa internet o signal. Tungkol ito sa mga tao at sa mga oportunidad na nabubuksan para sa kanila.”

Aguda said every additional connection can support education, business growth, and new opportunities for Filipino families. He also acknowledged government agencies, local government units, industry partners, and other stakeholders supporting the goals of Digital Bayanihan through collective action.

Grab said it will continue working with government and private-sector partners to support more inclusive, accessible, and resilient digital services for Filipino communities.
