The local media is abuzz with news of the SC ruling on the Cybercrime law. Most pressing is the clause dealing with online libel. If you remember, the wording of the cybercrime law leaves the owner of a website liable if someone posts a libelous statement on their site. This opens up a whole world of hurt if, say, you have a personal website and someone posts an unsavory, libelous comment. The SC has ruled that the owner of the site can’t be held liable, though the person who posted the comment could face charges. We do believe this is a step in the right direction, but there are a few things that have to be dealt with before we’re totally comfortable with the whole thing.

The SC has likewise ruled the real-time monitoring and recording of data traffic and communication unconstitutional.

Stay posted, we’ll keep updating you all as the news comes in.
