Apple revealed a couple of news and devices earlier during their Spring Forward event in San Francisco California, and you can bet the company’s looking to set new industry standards with their latest pieces. Here are two of the bigger announcements during the event.
Apple Watch
Set to go on sale in the United Kingdom this coming April 24 are the three Apple Watch variants: the basic Watch Sport (aluminum), mid-tier Watch Standard (stainless steel), and premium Watch Edition (rose or yellow 18-karat gold). All three will have 38mm and 42mm size options, a promised battery life of up to 18 hours, customizable watch faces, and an iPhone dialer functionality.
Complementing the stylish aesthetics of the main watch body will be three leather bands and two stainless steel bands in two colors. Additionally, the Watch Edition will have clasps made from solid gold.
Specs-wise, the Apple Watch will run on Apple’s own Watch OS; an S1 SOC; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards; a heart rate monitor; and accelerometer. You can check out the full details here.
MacBook
The MacBook has lost a ton of weight and it now comes in at just 13.1mm thick—24-percent less bulky than the current 11-inch MacBook Air. The reduced space for innards doesn’t mean it’s any less powerful and premium, though.
The lightest MacBook ever has a screen diagonal of 12-inches with a 2304×1440 Retina Display, a 1.1GHz Intel Core M processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid state drive. An upgraded variant is available strutting a 1.2GHz processor of the same make and 512GB of flash storage.
The body is made entirely out of metal with only one cable socket by its lonesome combining functions like charging and HDMI. This spiffy new port is known as USB-C and Apple is saying that more products (not exclusively from them) will feature the technology in the future.
Meanwhile, the keyboard is larger, occupying more of its area in the clamshell, with each individual keys having a new-spring mechanism and backlight for a better typing experience.
Finally, the MacBook is aiming to do away with the right click feature in favor of a more “intuitive” trackpad. Dubbed as “Force Touch”, a haptic (or as Apple calls it, “taptic”) feedback engine detects how hard you’re pressing the pad and launches an action depending on the sensitivity it detects. It’s fully customizable for a more seamless interfacing experience.
Color options for the new MacBook are silver, space grey, and gold.
