As per tradition, Apple has introduced the S versions of its current flagship mobile phones, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, in a keynote event a couple of hours ago.
While the phones look similar to their namesakes, a lot of changes has been done under the hood. For one, the processor is now Apple’s own A9 64-bit chipset boasted to be 70- and 90-percent faster in CPU and GPU-related tasks respectively. Apple’s mum about the specific numbers though.
Likewise, the cameras on board were also improved upon, this time bringing a 12MP snapper to the back and a 5MP selfie shutter at the front. The primary camera is touted to have a better autofocus mechanism and can capture up to 4K quality videos as well.
Wi-Fi and LTE antennas have also seen slight developments, with Apple promising even faster connections on both standards.
Cradling the new innards is a new aluminum alloy body that along with a tougher display glass should help prevent BendGate from happening to the 4.7- and 5.5-inch phones
The reinforced display carries with it the new 3D Touch technology wherein capacitive sensors use pressure to activate contextual actions such as peeking at your email or popping pictures into full view. Acknowledging user actions is a Taptic Engine providing 10- or 15-millisecond mini vibrations for feedback.
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be available in colors silver, gold, space grey, and the new rose gold and are set for a release date of September 25.
