This year, Accenture is using technology for a good cause.
The leading global professional services company that provides various strategy, consulting, and operation solutions has pledged to participate in Code.org’s “Hours of Code”. Established in 2013, the program aims to educate students in basic coding and computer science through a one-hour online tutorial.
Accenture has been supporting the program for 3 consecutive year and this 2017, the multinational firm builds an efficient coding tutorial about artificial intelligence exclusively for students. Various AI techniques will be taught to students across the globe through the use of an Internet-enabled PC or laptop. This is helpful for Senior High School students in the country who are currently enrolled in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) strand.
“Technology is creating jobs that didn’t even exist five years ago and learning to code can transform the trajectory of a student’s life and career,” said Paul Daugherty, Accenture’s chief technology & innovation officer and ‘chief coder.’ “As part of our commitment to working with Code.org to prepare young people for the digital economy, Accenture employees last year dedicated more than 10,000 hours to Hour of Code, inspiring more than 100,000 students around the world to learn basic coding skills. We’ve seen the impact that Code.org is having on students and this year we’re doing more to support that — more hours and more classroom sessions to spark an interest in working with the technologies of tomorrow.”
STEM-related educational activities have been prepared by the company for every branch. Accenture executives such as Yves Bernaert (Senior Managing Director), Jo Deblaere (Chief Operating Officer), Mohan Sekhar (Senior Managing Director in India), and Christy Sovereign (Senior Managing Director in Minneapolis) join the students in Paris, Amsterdam, India , and Minneapolis for Hours of Code. Meanwhile, Senior Managing Director for Philippines Ambe Tierro hosts students in Accenture Liquid Studio in Manila. Managing Directors JV Palpallatoc and Arvin Yason visit St. Paul College Manila and Oppra National High School in Cebu respectively.
