The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will lead the Philippine delegation at the upcoming CommunicAsia2017–Asia’s largest industry event for ICT that will be held from May 23 to 25, 2017 in Singapore.
The Philippines Pavilion will house 10 Philippine companies, from startups to large corporations, operating in the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM), telecommunications, financial and transportation industries. In addition, the DICT will also be hosting a half-day seminar, on May 24 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Level Four, Marina Bay Sands, called ‘Philippines Connect’, which is aimed at addressing the upcoming changes and opportunities in the Philippine ICT industry.
The Philippines Pavilion will showcase the best of what the country has to offer and will include start-ups Taxumo and FAME Aviation App that will be featuring their latest innovations to help simplify financial transactions and make air, sea and land transportation safer. Meanwhile, Advanced World Systems, Alliance Software, Inc., Exist Software Labs, Inc., PLDT Enterprise, Red Core Solutions, Sutherland Global Services, THINKBIT Solutions and Xurpas Enterprise, Inc. will be promoting their latest products and service offerings.
“The DICT has been actively working with different stakeholders to address the efficiency and speed of telecommunication services in the country while promoting the products and services that our local ICT and IT-BPM companies have to offer. The Philippines Pavilion at CommunicAsia2017 is a great opportunity for our companies to showcase their services and solutions to potential partners, clients and investors in the region and beyond. We are optimistic that our presence in this event will contribute to the success of the exhibitors’ businesses that, in return, will help drive the growth of the Philippine economy,” Usec. Monchito Ibrahim of the DICT said.
CommunicAsia2017 Summit will also see speakers and moderators from the Philippines including PLDT Chief Technology and Information Advisor, Joachim Horn and NSR Research Director, Jose Del Rosario. BroadcastAsia2017 will see ABS-CBN Customer Relationship Management Division Head, Richmond Ezer Escolar speak at the conference and Filipino director Pedring Lopez will also talk about his latest movie Entity (Nilalang), at the Post Production Hub.
The creation of the DICT in June 2016 reinforces the Philippine government’s goal of improving the ICT sector in the country. In fact, in March 2017, the DICT received approval to establish a national broadband system as part of the Philippines’ ICT agenda to enhance infrastructure development for inclusive growth and people empowerment. The National Broadband Plan is focused on accelerating investments in the country, mobilizing and engaging public and private sectors, and connecting as well as increasing adoption and usage of technology tools and solutions across the Philippines.
