The Racket Professional Organization has completed the Philippine leg of its APAC Level 1 Coach Training Tour, certifying more than 110 Filipino coaches across Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The program followed similar coach education tours in Malaysia and Vietnam and forms part of RPO APAC’s broader effort to establish consistent coaching standards across the Asia-Pacific region.
The tour brought together aspiring coaches, current instructors, and experienced players from clubs, academies, schools, and growing pickleball communities nationwide. RPO said the turnout reflects rising demand for structured coach education as pickleball continues to expand in the Philippines.
Blending theory with on-court instruction
The Level 1 Coach Certification Program covered coaching methodology, player assessment, lesson planning, communication skills, technical fundamentals, and practical on-court instruction. These modules were designed to help coaches support long-term player development while applying more consistent teaching standards.
The certification combined 10 hours of virtual learning, a two-hour online assessment, and a six-hour practical workshop. This blended format allowed participants to study the theoretical foundations of coaching before applying them in supervised sessions.
“Certification should never be the finish line,” said Connor Nguyen, managing director of RPO APAC. “Our vision is to build a community where coaches continue learning, connect with one another, and gain meaningful coaching opportunities long after the workshop ends.”

Creating pathways beyond certification
RPO APAC said the Level 1 credential is intended to serve as the beginning of a longer professional development journey. Through its regional education network and industry partnerships, coaches can continue learning, strengthen their professional connections, and gain practical experience after completing the course.
Selected standout participants from the Manila Level 1 Workshop will be invited to enter Helios’ coach selection process. Further training and evaluation may lead to coaching placements with the Philippine pickleball venue operator.
Filipino coach Carlo provides one example of how the pathway can progress. After completing the Level 1 Certification Program and advancing to RPO’s intensive COEBRA leadership program, he returned to the Manila workshop as an assistant clinician and helped mentor a new group of participants.
Regional learning and industry exposure
Certified coaches will also be invited to regional RPO Coach Gatherings, where they can reconnect with peers, exchange coaching experiences, learn from industry leaders, and stay updated on player development practices and coaching methodology. The gatherings are intended to sustain professional learning after the formal certification process ends.
As the strategic partner of PPA Tour Asia, RPO APAC also provides opportunities for certified coaches to assist at RPO Clinics during tour events. These placements allow coaches to work alongside experienced clinicians, apply their knowledge in live environments, and gain exposure to internationally recognized coaching practices.
RPO also works with JOOLA to connect coach education with the wider professional pickleball ecosystem across Asia-Pacific. The organization said these partnerships help extend development beyond the classroom by linking coaches with events, industry partners, and other professionals in the sport.
Supporting the sport’s long-term growth
RPO believes the future of Philippine pickleball will depend not only on the number of players entering the sport, but also on the quality of the coaches guiding them. Its development model combines certification, continuing education, mentorship, professional networking, and practical coaching opportunities.
As participation continues to grow, the organization aims to build a community of coaching professionals capable of supporting players, clubs, schools, academies, and local pickleball communities over the long term.
