The Programmers’ Guild of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Sta. Mesa Manila is set to host an exciting event that will challenge, inspire, and connect the programming community. On August 28th, Claro M. Recto Hall will come alive with Codyssey: The Pursuit of Programming and Creativity, a day dedicated to coding challenges, tech talks, and networking opportunities. Organized by PUP The Programmers’ Guild, this event is open to all students and promises to be a day of learning, competition, and collaboration.
Codyssey is designed to appeal to programmers at all levels, from beginners to advanced coders. The main attraction of the event is the Excalicode programming competition, inspired by the legendary sword Excalibur. This on-campus contest is divided into three categories—Squire for beginners, Knight for intermediates, and Master for experts—each crafted to test and enhance participants’ programming skills and knowledge.
- Squire Level: Focuses on multiple-choice questions and identification tasks that assess basic programming concepts.
- Knight Level: Challenges participants with fill-in-the-blank questions centered on algorithms and data structures.
- Master Level: Designed for teams of three, this level pushes participants to demonstrate their ability to code from scratch.
Prizes range from PHP 250 to PHP 900, along with certificates and exclusive event swag.
In addition to the competition, Codyssey will feature The Round Table Talks, where industry professionals will share their expertise. Speakers include:
- Bryl Lim, senior Full-Stack Developer and founder of BASE404, discussing “Preparing for a Career as a Developer.”
- Carl Viñas, Automation Trainer and AI Interpretability researcher at Whitebox Research, exploring “Beyond the Ordinary: Exploring Careers as an Automation Trainer or AI Interpretability Researcher.”
These talks are designed to inspire attendees by offering insights into the latest trends and career opportunities in the tech industry.
Codyssey is also a prime opportunity for networking, allowing participants to connect with fellow students, potential mentors, and industry professionals. The event aims to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas, potentially leading to future opportunities in the tech field.
Registration for Codyssey is free, and students can sign up individually or as part of a team for Excalicode.
