From the rivers that shape its lands to the mountains that stand as its landmarks, Pampanga has always carried stories worth telling. This year, the UP Aguman gives those stories a voice once again through the return of its most prestigious academic competition: the Pautakan, with the theme “KABLÁS: Ibat king kulyô ning paraláya, mirásnan ing kapanáyan king paróba,” meaning “From the shouts upstream, hope will reach the deltas.” Rooted in the Kapampangan word kablas, or “echo,” the theme reflects how a voice, no matter where it begins, can travel far enough to inspire change and reach communities beyond its source.
The theme finds its visual and cultural anchor in the Tutulari Avatar Gorge of Porac, Pampanga, a natural wonder that embodies the beauty of discovery within the Kapampangan region. Alongside it stands the Pampanga River and Mt. Arayat, represented by paralaya and paróba, whose landscapes manifest the journey of a voice from its source upstream toward the delta. Together, these elements serve as a reminder that there is much more to uncover, appreciate, and celebrate within Pampanga—not only in its vivid terrain, but also in the people who call these majesties home.
The Pautakan has remained one of UP Aguman’s core and flagship events since its establishment in 1974, when charter member Danilo Galang drew inspiration from the Engineering Radio Guild Quiz show of the UP Diliman College of Engineering. Since then, it has brought together some of the brightest elementary and secondary students across Pampanga, challenging them through a series of academic competitions in pursuit of the coveted Oblation trophy and the title of Pautakan Champion.
Yet, beyond the competition, the Pautakan continues to celebrate the spirit of kinship and camaraderie. It creates a space where students from different schools can meet, compete, and form connections while sharing the same pursuit of knowledge and excellence. Through this avenue, the Pautakan becomes more than a test of intellect; it becomes a gathering of young Kapampangans united by their pursuit of learning and their pride in where they come from.
This year, the echoes will resound across two weekends as the Grade School Division takes the stage on October 17, 2026, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center, followed by the High School Division on October 24–25, 2026, at National University – Clark. As young minds from across Pampanga gather to test their knowledge and skill, the Pautakan once again becomes a stage for their voices, talents, and aspirations to be heard.
The echoes have begun, the voices are gathering, and the challenge awaits.
Whose voice will rise above the rest? Whose wit will shine the brightest? And whose echo will travel farthest? Witness the return of Pautakan 2026 as UP Aguman once again celebrates the brilliance, potential, and enduring spirit of the Kapampangan people.
