MG Motor Philippines has officially introduced the MG S5 EV, an all-electric compact SUV combining rear-wheel-drive performance, practical interior space, connected technology, and a claimed 415km NEDC driving range.
The new model made its Philippine debut as MG kicked off its Multiply Greatness Tour 2026 at the TriNoma Activity Center on August 27. The nationwide roadshow showcases the brand’s growing New Energy Vehicle lineup and will travel to Pampanga, Laguna, and Cebu, giving motorists opportunities to see and test selected electrified MG models.
Rear-wheel-drive electric performance
The S5 EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor producing 125kW, equivalent to 170PS, and 250Nm of torque. Unlike many compact electric SUVs, the motor drives the rear wheels, giving the S5 EV a rear-wheel-drive layout while retaining the versatility expected from an everyday SUV.
Drivers can select from Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow, and Custom driving modes, allowing the vehicle to adjust its response to different conditions and preferences. The S5 EV also includes regenerative braking with Low, Medium, Strong, and Adaptive settings, together with One-Pedal Drive for additional control over energy recuperation.
49kWh battery with up to 120kW DC charging
Energy comes from a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supporting up to 120kW DC fast charging. MG says the battery can charge from 10% to 90% in approximately 24 minutes under suitable conditions, while AC charging is supported at up to 7kW.
The S5 EV offers a claimed 415km NEDC range, positioning it for daily commuting and longer trips. Scheduled charging and battery thermal optimization are also included to help owners manage charging and battery performance more conveniently.
The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load, allowing compatible external devices to draw power from the S5 EV’s battery. This adds another practical dimension for outdoor activities, travel, or situations where an external power source may be useful.
Compact SUV proportions with flexible cargo space
The MG S5 EV measures 4,476mm long, 1,849mm wide, and 1,621mm high, with a 2,730mm wheelbase. Cargo capacity is rated at 453 liters, expanding to 1,441 liters with the rear seats folded, plus underfloor storage.
Exterior details include 17-inch alloy wheels with aero fins, projector LED headlights, Racing Flag-design LED daytime running lights and taillights, gloss black door mirrors, and a rear spoiler. Load-bearing roof rails can support up to 75kg, giving owners additional flexibility for active-lifestyle equipment.
Connected cabin for everyday use
Inside, the S5 EV combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.8-inch touchscreen display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included for smartphone connectivity, while automatic climate control, Smart Entry, multiple USB ports, and a PM2.5 cabin filter add everyday convenience.
The cabin also gets an electronic parking brake with Auto Brake Hold and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Taken together, the features give the S5 EV a technology-focused interior without losing the practical elements expected from a compact SUV.
MG Pilot adds a broad driver-assistance suite
The MG S5 EV comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of MG Pilot advanced driver-assistance technologies. These include Front Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Door Opening Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent Headlight Control, Intelligent Speed Assistance, and Driver Monitoring System.
Other safety equipment includes seven airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines.
The S5 EV has received 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

The MG S5 EV has a suggested retail price of PHP1,448,888 and is available in Desert Sand Beige, Andes Gray, Cosmic Silver, and Dover White.
For its launch, MG Motor Philippines is offering an introductory PHP40,000 discount, bringing the price down to PHP1,408,888. Customers who reserve during the Multiply Greatness Tour can receive an additional PHP10,000 discount with a minimum PHP1,000 reservation fee, subject to applicable promotional conditions.
Under the stated launch offer, the S5 EV can therefore be purchased for PHP1,398,888, together with PHP30,000 worth of charging equipment comprising a 7kW wall charger and a 3.3kW portable charger. The roadshow reservation discount also applies to selected New Energy models including the MG4 Urban EV, MG RX9 PHEV, and MG HS PHEV.
