BMW’s official Philippine importer and distributor, Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), has announced the limited release of the BMW 2 Series Coupé variants: the 220i Sport Coupé and M235i M Performance Automobile. The two newest flavors of the famed 02 Series are the company’s latest players in the local premium compact segment.
Meant as a successor to the BMW 1 Series Coupé, the BMW 220i Sport Coupé is a two-door body styled machine with bold aesthetics hinting at what it can do on the road. Its front bumper bears sharp-looking Xenon headlights complemented by BMW’s signature kidney grille and forward-slanting kidney slats. Rounding up the fierce exterior are highly-contoured side lines and BMW Sport Line high-gloss black trim at the rear.
The aggressive styling is carried into the car’s cabin, with a driver-oriented cockpit with easily reachable controls, ample headroom, legroom, and storage capacity, and foldable 40:20:40 backrests.
The 220i Sport Coupé runs on a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo Petrol engine outing 184 horses and 270Nm of torque. Mated with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, the 220i Sport Coupé can go from 0 to 100kph in 7.0 seconds flat, up to a top speed of 235kph. With its aerodynamic frame and BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology, all that power on tap consumes the least fuel possible for a smart and sustainable ride.
Meanwhile, the BMW M235i is tuned for maximum performance courtesy of BMW’s M division. This M Performance Automobile has an aerodynamic front apron with remolded front and rear bumpers, huge air intakes, wheel arch embellishers, and side sills in body color.
Inside the vehicle, the driver sits on an electronically adjustable sports seat with lumbar support in exclusive Leather Dakota upholstery for maximum comfort.
Popping the hood open reveals a 3.0L Inline-6 M Performance Engine with 326hp and 450Nm of torque, enabling 0 to 100kph acceleration in less than 5 seconds while still maximizing fuel efficiency. Handling is made a breeze thanks to an adaptive M Sport Suspension, and responsive gear shifting is courtesy of an eight-speed steptronic sport transmission.
