The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is encouraging more sustainable commuting through a new partnership with Green GSM, a ride-hailing platform that operates a fleet of VinFast electric vehicles.

The partnership enables BPI clients to pay directly for Green GSM rides using their linked BPI accounts, making cashless, zero-emission transportation more accessible through the bank’s digital ecosystem.

Linking digital banking with sustainable transport

To use the service, customers simply need to link their BPI account to the official Green GSM app and select BPI as their preferred payment method. Once linked, they can book and pay for rides without cash.

BPI also reminded users to link their accounts only through the official Green GSM application and never share their login credentials or one-time passwords (OTPs) with anyone.

Open banking powers the integration

The partnership forms part of BPI’s broader effort to strengthen its digital ecosystem through open banking and application programming interface (API) capabilities.

With more than 9 million online and mobile banking users, the bank continues to expand secure digital integrations that allow customers to access financial services within the digital platforms they already use. Through trusted partners such as Green GSM, clients can connect their BPI accounts to make secure and seamless cashless payments.

Sustainability through everyday choices

Eric Luchangco, chief financial officer and chief sustainability officer at BPI, said sustainability has become part of the bank’s overall business strategy.

“At BPI, sustainability is truly integrated into the way we do business. That is why we appreciate this partnership with Green GSM. By enabling direct payments through linked accounts, BPI is making sustainable mobility more accessible and convenient for our clients. Every time a client chooses to ride with Green GSM, they are making a simple yet meaningful choice that contributes to a more sustainable future. This partnership embodies our Sustainability Awareness Month theme, ‘Sustainable Progress for All,’ by providing the commuting public with an option that is safe, cost-efficient, and sustainable.”

BPI executives discuss how digital banking and sustainability initiatives can support greener transportation.

Alex Seminiano, chief technology officer at BPI, said the collaboration demonstrates how finance and transportation can work together to support a cleaner future.

“This partnership is a definitive reflection of our shared commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more efficient tomorrow. We are bridging the gap between energy, transport, and finance through seamless integration. Safe. Sustainable. Forward-looking. This is not just a partnership; it is the BPI way of defining the future. Together with Green GSM, we are powering a smarter, more connected world.”

Rewards for choosing electric rides

As part of the partnership, BPI and Green GSM are offering rewards to customers who use their linked BPI accounts to pay for Green GSM rides.

From June 1 to July 31, 2026, eligible users receive 20 GSM Green Points for every successful ride paid through their linked BPI account. The points can be redeemed as discounts on future rides, encouraging customers to continue choosing more sustainable transportation options.

Supporting the transition to cleaner mobility

Francis Lacuna, managing director for the Philippines at Green GSM, said partnerships with organizations such as BPI are essential to accelerating the adoption of sustainable mobility.

Green GSM’s fleet of VinFast electric vehicles supports zero-emission urban mobility in the Philippines.

“Since launching in the Philippines, Green GSM has completed more than 5 million fully electric trips and helped avoid over 6,300 tons of carbon emissions. These milestones reflect a growing willingness among Filipinos to embrace cleaner and more responsible ways of moving around their cities. Together with BPI, we hope to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable future and create lasting value for the communities we serve.”

The collaboration reflects both organizations’ shared goal of combining digital innovation with environmentally responsible transportation, giving commuters a more convenient way to adopt sustainable mobility in their daily lives.
