Yamaha NMAX Tech MAX Y-ECVT: Shift to performance, ride to take command

    0

There’s something different about the hum of engines when you know you’re about to experience something new. The moment you grip the handlebars, the world narrows into focus. It’s not about where you’re headed; it’s about how you’ll get there. With Yamaha Motor Philippines introducing the all-new NMAX Tech MAX featuring Y-ECVT technology, this marks the perfect time for owners to fully experience its advanced riding performance, take command, and discover the shift like never before.

The Ride Begins: Commanding the road and experiencing the Shift firsthand

In an exclusive 3-day riding event, Yamaha invited NMAX Tech MAX users who were among the first 155 owners following the product launch last March 2025. Starting from Quezon City and Manila, participants were challenged to take command and ride their NMAXs the way they’re used to. Onwards to the scenic northern provincial roads, the riding experience was shifted to a more performance-driven ride.

    NMAX YECVT

The YRA (Yamaha Riding Academy) implemented specialized Y-ECVT Hand Signals that instructed riders when to use the two riding modes and the 3-level downshift controls. With a switch, riders toggled between Touring and Sports Modes, unlocking two distinct performances within the same machine. On the winding roads of Jose Abad Santos (JASA) highway connecting San Fernando, Mexico, Apalit, and Lubao, Pampanga, the Touring Mode was used, allowing them to command acceleration at will. Whether it was gliding through traffic or surging ahead with precision, the ride felt smarter, sharper, and more intuitive.

    MEL_DOLORICO_PHOTO

When the route shifted to the aggressive twisties leading into Zambales’ coastal curves, Sports Mode took command. The riders traversed through the famous Bagak-Morong Road in Bataan, known for its twisting curves and elevation changes. This route is a spot-on map made for exploring how the NMAX Tech MAX performs at its peak. The Sports mode delivers an instant response and heightened control, seamlessly matching the road’s rhythm and the engine’s performance.

The entire ride changed the riders’ impression of Y-ECVT. They experienced how this new technology responded like an instinct; every switch carried an invisible precision, every downshift a subtle command.

    Expanding the Shift experience

Yamaha has taken it further, not just improving performance but revolutionizing how a rider connects to the machine.  This exclusive riding activity is only just the beginning. Yamaha is rolling out the Y-ECVT experience through the upcoming NMAX Tech MAX and Aerox SP Test Ride events nationwide. More riders will get the chance to experience the shift, and once they’ve felt the unmatched performance, the ride after will never be the same.

    Mercusys MC210

Together, the MERCUSYS MC210 and MC500 deliver full 360° coverage, eliminating blind spots whether monitoring a living room, driveway, or yard. AI-powered smart detection further enhances security by distinguishing between general motion, people, and background activity, reducing unnecessary alerts while keeping users informed of what truly matters.

With the MERCUSYS app, the cameras offer real-time footage and support for two-way audio, allowing communication from anywhere. Parents can speak to children at home after school, renters can interact with delivery riders at the gate, and people can reassure pets when they are away. For added convenience, both cameras support Google Assistant and Amazon deviceAlexa, allowing quick voice commands to pull up a live feed on compatible devices, allowing hands-free control.

Customizable block zones give households greater control over which areas are monitored, while the MERCUSYS MC500 goes a step further with a physical lens cover, providing extra reassurance for users who want to fully close the camera’s view when privacy is needed—such as near a neighbor’s window or backyard. With flexible storage options of up to 512GB on microSD or secure cloud backup via MERCUSYS Camera Care, important footage can be safely preserved without relying on costly subscriptions.

Beyond clarity, the MERCUSYS MC210 also provides advanced AI features tailored for family use. Surveillance remains clear at all times thanks to color night vision, which allows business owners to identify vehicles, deliveries, and after-hours activity, even in low-light conditions. When visibility is even lower, infrared night vision provides crisp black-and-white footage, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring from day to night.

Built to withstand the elements, the MERCUSYS MC500 features an IP65 weatherproof design, providing reliable year-round performance in heavy rain, dust, or extreme heat. Business owners no longer need to worry about outdoor monitoring being disrupted during storms, while homeowners enjoy consistent protection of garages, backyards, and other outdoor areas.

Deepfakes and data leaks fuel surge in Philippine cyber attacks, Viettel Cyber Security reveals

As the Philippines accelerates its push for digitalization across industries, the same transformation driving progress has also expanded the country’s exposure to cyber threats. According to Viettel Cyber Security, one of Asia’s leading cybersecurity firms, the Philippines recorded a 49% surge in data breaches in Q3 2025, exposing over 52 million credentials in just three months.

On Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Viettel Cyber Security has released its Q3 2025 Cyber Threat Landscape Report, which underscores how the country’s rapid digital transformation continues to outpace its defenses. This positions Viettel Cyber Security as the first private company to release a quarterly cybersecurity assessment specific to the Philippines.

“Cybersecurity isn’t about fear, it’s about foresight,” said Thomas Luu, country manager at Viettel Cyber Security. “As the Philippines accelerates towards digitalization faster than ever, the importance of security must not be overlooked. Organizations who innovate without the necessary protection in place become vulnerable to risks. Cybersecurity isn’t just a safeguard—it’s an enabler of sustainable digital growth.”

    The Age of AI-Driven Deception

AI and deepfake technologies have begun to reshape the anatomy of cyberattacks. Cybercriminals now use AI-generated videos, cloned voices, and fake executive communications to deceive employees and partners. Combined with AI-assisted malware, these attacks are faster, more targeted, and harder to detect—ushering in an era where deception has become industrialized.

The report reveals how the nature of cyber threats is rapidly changing:

    • 76 data breach incidents — up 49% from Q2’s 51 cases.
    • 4.3 Million compromised accounts — a 73% rise from 2.5 million last quarter.
    • 7,656 phishing attacks — with 31% aimed at banking and finance.
    • 27 new vulnerabilities — found in various platforms which are used everyday in workplaces

According to the report, the healthcare sector has emerged as the top target for cybercriminals, driven by the growing value of patient data and the increasing adoption of digital health systems. Hospitals and clinics have become prime targets for ransomware attacks that can disrupt critical operations and compromise sensitive medical information. Other sectors facing heightened risk include finance and e-commerce, which continue to be exploited through phishing, credential theft, and data exfiltration. Meanwhile, manufacturing, energy, and public services are most exposed to ransomware, supply-chain compromises, and advanced persistent threats (APTs).

Beyond institutions, more ordinary Filipinos are becoming victims to these threats. Leaked personal data is being reused in fake job listings, e-commerce scams, and fraudulent loan applications. People who reuse passwords across accounts are especially vulnerable, while small businesses are being hit with phishing invoices disguised as messages from legitimate suppliers.

    The Need for Cyber Resilience

Viettel Cyber Security recommends a four-pronged strategy for companies to stay resilient amid growing cyberthreats. This includes regular patching and software updates to close known vulnerabilities, maintaining offline data backups supported by clear disaster recovery procedures, and continuous employee training to enhance awareness and minimize human error. Equally vital is round-the-clock threat monitoring or the use of managed Security Operations Center (SOC) services to ensure early detection and quick response to potential breaches.

“Cybersecurity has become a marker of leadership and trust, especially in an increasingly digital economy,” says Luu. “At Viettel Cyber Security, we partner with organizations to build resilience through managed SOC services. Our SOC empowers businesses to enhance operational efficiency and security management, helping them overcome workforce constraints while ensuring 24/7 protection against evolving cyber threats.”

Payoneer strengthens Filipino SME competitiveness against rising global fees

As global transaction costs continue to climb, Payoneer is empowering Filipino SMEs to stay competitive in international trade through faster, more transparent, and affordable cross-border payment solutions.

The average cost of sending money overseas climbed to 6.49% in Q1 2025, up from 6.26% in the previous quarter, according to the World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide (RPW) 2025 Report. This figure is more than double the target set under the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which translates into substantial losses for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in global trade.

This challenge is critical in the Philippines, where SMEs employ 63 percent of the workforce, according to The World Bank. Without intervention, rising costs could stall SME growth in the Philippines, limiting their potential to drive economic dynamism and resilience. This highlights the need for faster, more transparent, and affordable solutions—a gap that Payoneer bridges.

“More and more SMEs across are choosing Payoneer as their trusted partner,” said Nagesh Devata, Payoneer SVP for APAC. “We delivered 16% year-on-year revenue growth in Q2 2025, with SMEs driving much of this momentum, ultimately reinforcing our role as the partner for cross-border growth.”

Breaking Down the Financial Barriers to Global Trade

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) acknowledges challenges in cross-border payments, including high fees, lack of transparency, and slow processing times. For SMEs, these challenges can erode profits, disrupt cash flows, and negatively impact their reputation and credibility, making it difficult for them to compete globally.

Payoneer addresses these challenges by offering a financial stack that is tailor-made to help SMEs manage their financial operations and ultimately simplify international transactions. Its multi-currency receiving accounts allow Filipino businesses to receive payments globally as if they were a local entity in that country, bypassing expensive wire transfers. This makes receiving payments faster and easier, leveling the playing field for SMEs.

Expanding Market Reach and Enhancing Operational Efficiency

“Companies built for global work from the start are positioned to stay ahead,” said Devata. “They’re more aware of how expanding beyond their borders can benefit them, creating avenues to access new markets and customers, acquire skills and technologies, hire and retain talent, and achieve greater economies of scale,” he adds.

Devata also points out that other challenges that SMB faces include friction from hiring in a foreign country and a lack of support in legal, regulatory, compliance, and tax issues when navigating these markets. To address these, Payoneer acquired Skuad in 2024 to equip SMEs with Employer of Record (EOR) capabilities across more than 160 countries—streamlining compliance, payroll, and local HR administration.

With these business-grade features and a secure platform, Payoneer empowers SMBs to reach new markets, manage global operations, and grow across borders with greater ease, reliability, and confidence.

Contribution to the Broader Philippine Economy

Payoneer strengthens the Philippine economy by giving SMEs a faster, more affordable way to handle international payments, helping them bypass costly, traditional methods and seize global opportunities with confidence.

“At some point, SMEs would face the challenge of scaling their companies into new markets,” said Monique Avila, Head of Customer Success for APAC. “Entrepreneurs like Sherwin Alegre of Microsource Inc. once struggled to scale globally without the right infrastructure for international transactions. By partnering with Payoneer, he gained the tools to boost efficiency, focus on innovation, and expand across Southeast Asia.”

By giving businesses access to tools and new markets, Payoneer enables a more resilient and globally competitive class of SMEs, positioning the Philippines to capitalize on the digital economy and achieve a new level of economic growth.

Filipinos can now easily invest in IPOs through GCash—with Maynilad first

The Maynilad share sale marks the launch of the new IPO subscription feature offered by broker AB Capital Securities Inc. within the GCash app.

As more Filipinos look for ways to grow their investments, GCash introduces a new IPO subscription feature on GStocks PH, offered by AB Capital Securities, Inc., that allows everyday investors to participate in Initial Public Offerings (IPOs).

The new feature enables individual investors to easily subscribe to shares when a company lists for the first time on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). It will be available on GStocks PH within the GCash app from October 23 to 29, aligning with the Maynilad IPO offer period, and will be offered during future listings as well.

In the past, participating in an IPO was often a fragmented and uncertain process for retail investors. There was limited assurance that subscribed shares would be allocated and transactions typically took place outside the broker’s main trading platform. These made the overall experience inconvenient and less accessible.

GCash aims to address these barriers by offering a fully digital, unified experience within the app. Through GStocks PH, Filipinos can open a stock trading account, fund it using their GCash wallet, and subscribe to IPO shares all in one platform.

The feature also brings greater transparency to the process by showing investors in real time how many shares are still available for subscription through their broker, and immediately confirming whether their purchase has been successfully allocated or not.

By distributing shares on a first-come, first-served basis, this addresses a common issue in past IPOs where retail investors are not always guaranteed their shares, especially when an IPO is oversubscribed. Oversubscription occurs when demand exceeds available shares allocated to the broker.

“Through GStocks PH, we’re ushering in a completely digital IPO experience that addresses traditional barriers that limited how ordinary Filipinos participated in public listings in the past,” said Group Head of New Businesses Winsley Bangit at Mynt (the parent company of GCash).

“We aim to extend the same ease of access and convenience experienced by institutional investors to individual investors while ensuring a secure, transparent, and compliant investment environment for all. The rollout of this feature ensures public offerings are truly open to the public and brings us one step closer to democratizing investing for every Filipino.” he added.”

“Through our continued partnership with GCash, AB Capital Securities is proud to make IPOs more accessible to Filipinos by bringing a fully digital experience via GStocks PH. This aligns with our mission to make investing in stocks more inclusive and transparent,” said AB Capital Securities Inc. Research Head, Hazel Tanedo Tan.

To access the IPO subscription feature, fully verified GCash users with an updated kyc must go to GInvest in the GCash app and register for GStocks PH. The new feature will be available in-app during the Maynilad IPO from October 23 to 29 and will continue to be available on GStocks PH via AB Capital Securities Inc. during future IPOs and FOOs (follow-on offerings).

GCash continues to deliver accessible and inclusive financial tools that empower Filipinos to build their wealth through smarter investing.

New player Voltai wants two-wheel fleets to make the swap to EVs

Startup venture Voltai recently introduced itself and the AP01 — its inaugural 2-watt two-wheeled electric vehicle designed for Philippine roads — to industry leaders and fleet operators.

With a battery swapping station present on the scene, supplemented by its own mobile application, the invited participants — from logistics, food and beverage delivery, and ride hailing companies — were immersed in the experience of navigating Voltai’s two-wheel battery swap ecosystem — the first of its scale in the country.

    Voltai
Voltai’s Battery Swapping Stations are located in 14 select Cleanfuel stations and a MyTown location for convenient, accessible, and efficient swaps, with plans for expansion in the coming months.

In the event, participants were given the opportunity to test ride the AP01 and track its battery health, location, and performance via the mobile app supported by Google Maps. They also had the chance to replace a depleted battery with a fully-charged one in a matter of minutes, bypassing the traditional EV charging method, which takes way longer.

“The Voltai pilot preview marks the first step toward building the future of fleet e-mobility in the Philippines — smarter, cleaner, and more cost-efficient,” said 1882 Energy Ventures head of ideation and Voltai co-founder and CEO Fazlur Abdul Rahman. “As a business-to-business solution, it addresses downtime, frequent maintenance, and fuel cost challenges for fleet businesses and riders, while also providing remote visibility on utilization.”

Voltai’s business model sees it leasing its EVs and batteries for a fixed fee, shielding consumer businesses from rising vehicle costs and fuel price hikes, making it easier to scale cleaner and more sustainable fleets and lower their overall emissions. By making the transition to electric-powered fleets, fleet businesses can also expect less maintenance costs.

“We are very excited to share Voltai to the Philippine market and provide businesses with fleet requirements a competitive edge through lower costs, higher efficiency, and reduced emissions without the need to shoulder heavy upfront costs,” shared Rahman.

Voltai is a startup under 1882 Energy Ventures, a company under Aboitiz Power Corporation, focused on helping shape the decarbonization and decentralization of the energy system in the Philippines and beyond.

Philippines among Southeast Asia’s hotspots for industrial malware in Q2 2025—Kaspersky

Asia-Pacific Kaspersky Industrial Cybersecurity Conference (KICS) is a global event in the field of industrial cybersecurity that annually brings together leading information security experts, researchers, industrial automation suppliers, system integrators, and customers from around the world. At this year’s conference, Kaspersky warns that the Philippines remains one of the countries in Southeast Asia that is most at risk for industrial cyberattacks, facing persistent and growing threats to its operational technology systems.

Based on the latest Kaspersky Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS CERT) report, the Southeast Asia cluster recorded the highest global rates of viruses and AutoCAD malware detected on industrial control system (ICS) computers.

The report showed that 19.09 percent of ICS computers in the Philippines had malicious objects blocked in the second quarter of this year, slightly down from 22.27 percent during the first quarter. In terms of the percentage of ICS computers on which threats from the internet were blocked, the Philippines recorded 10.33 percent in the second quarter of this year, slightly down from 13.20 percent in the first quarter, showing a decline but still reflecting considerable exposure to internet-borne attacks.

Sam Yan, head of sales for Asia Emerging Countries at Kaspersky said Kaspersky’s latest report shows that industrial cyberthreats remain a significant challenge for the Philippines and the wider Southeast Asian region.

“While some attack vectors have seen a slight decline, the overall trend highlights the importance of maintaining strong defenses,” he said. “Organizations need to continuously strengthen their cybersecurity posture through regular assessments, timely updates, and capacity-building for both IT and OT teams to stay resilient against evolving threats”.

The report also showed that the percentage of email clients as a source of threats in the region has been increasing for two consecutive quarters. The Philippines particularly recorded 1.91 percent in the second quarter of 2025, up from 1.36 percent in the previous quarter.

Beyond email-based threats, removable media remained another front of concern. The Philippines posted 0.42 percent in the second quarter of 2025 from 0.66 percent in the previous quarter, suggesting modest progress but continued exposure.

In terms of the percentage of ICS computers on which spyware was blocked, the Philippines recorded 3.41 percent in the second quarter of 2025, slightly up from 3.38 percent in the first quarter of 2025, showing that spyware — including spy Trojans, backdoors, and keyloggers — continues to pose a steady threat to local industrial environments.

For comprehensive protection of industrial and critical sectors in the Philippines, Kaspersky offers a distinctive ecosystem that seamlessly integrates dedicated OT-grade technologies, expert knowledge and invaluable expertise. At the core of this ecosystem is Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity (KICS), a native Extended Detection and Response (XDR) platform designed for critical infrastructure protection. It provides robust network traffic analysis, along with endpoint protection, detection and response capabilities. This comprehensive solution integrates traditional IT security measures with purpose-built industrial security technologies, ensuring that your company is well-equipped to face any threat.

Philippines among Top 20 most targeted by cyber threats in 2025, Microsoft report reveals

In the first half of 2025, the Philippines ranked 20th globally among countries where customers were most frequently impacted by cyber activity, according to the newly released Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2025. The report highlights a surge in financially motivated cyberattacks, with extortion and ransomware driving over half of incidents worldwide.

The sixth annual edition of the report, which analyzes trends from July 2024 to June 2025, underscores the growing sophistication of cybercriminals and nation-state actors, and the urgent need for modern, AI-powered defenses. Microsoft’s global threat intelligence team processed over 100 trillion signals daily, blocked 4.5 million new malware attempts, and screened 5 billion emails for phishing and malware—demonstrating not only the scale of today’s cyber threat landscape, but also Microsoft’s unparalleled perspective and visibility into the global cybersecurity ecosystem.

“The Philippines’ inclusion in the top 20 most impacted countries is a wake-up call for organizations across sectors,” said Peter Maquera, CEO, Microsoft Philippines. “Cybersecurity must be treated as a national priority. As digital transformation accelerates, we must ensure that every Filipino—whether in government, healthcare, education, or business—is protected by resilient, modern security solutions.”

Key Findings Relevant to the Philippines and Southeast Asia:

    • Rise in Identity-Based Attacks: Identity attacks surged by 32% globally, with infostealer malware increasingly used to harvest credentials. The Philippines ranked among the top 20 countries affected by Lumma Stealer, a malware-as-a-service platform disrupted by Microsoft and global law enforcement in May 2025.
    • Critical Services Under Threat: Hospitals, local governments, and education institutions remain prime targets due to outdated systems and limited cybersecurity budgets.
    • AI as a Double-Edged Sword: Threat actors are using generative AI to scale phishing and social engineering attacks, while defenders are leveraging AI to detect anomalies and automate response.
    • Nation-State Activity: Chinese threat actors targeted the Philippines as part of broader espionage campaigns in Southeast Asia, focusing on IT, government, and academic sectors.

    Microsoft’s Call to Action

Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Microsoft urges organizations in the Philippines to adopt phishing-resistant multifactor authentication (MFA), which can block over 99% of identity-based attacks—even when attackers have valid credentials.

Beyond technical measures, cybersecurity must be embedded into business strategy and governance. Microsoft continues to collaborate with government and industry partners to strengthen defenses, share threat intelligence, and support the protection of critical infrastructure. Through initiatives like the Secure Future Initiative, Microsoft is committed to helping Filipino organizations build resilience and stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated adversaries.

SMC Infrastructure, Metro Pacific Tollways complete interoperability of Luzon expressways

The long-anticipated interoperability of expressways operated by SMC Infrastructure and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. throughout Luzon is now complete, with both firms officially launching the One RFID program on October 21, 2025, in Calamba, in ceremonies attended by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

    interoperability

“We are proud to announce the successful completion of interoperability between our electronic toll collection (ETC) systems, Autosweep and Easytrip. This latest feature will directly benefit motorists who will register for a new ETC account, as they will only need one radio frequency identification (RFID) and account to travel seamlessly across the Luzon expressway network,” both companies said in a joint statement.

The One RFID program covers all toll roads in Luzon such as Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector, Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, Manila- Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), Cavitex-C5 Link, Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), and the STAR Tollway.

Registering for the One RFID program is optional. Motorists with existing, separate Autosweep and Easytrip RFIDs and accounts may choose to join the toll interoperability program, but those who choose to maintain two separate RFID accounts, may also do so, the companies said.

This project was initiated by government through the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), in line with their mandate to improve the efficiency of the country’s expressway network.

The private operators had been working closely with government over the years, to make the vision of toll interoperability a reality.

“The road to One RFID was not easy, as it required extensive work on the part of all stakeholders. Both ETC providers made significant upgrades to their existing infrastructure to integrate their systems, while conducting rigorous testing to ensure smooth and seamless interoperability,” the firms said.

With the completion of the interoperability project, the expressway operators said their focus will now be on roll-out — making registration to the One RFID program more convenient and accessible — as well as continuous improvements to the system, to ensure overall better experience at the expressways for motorists.

“We express our gratitude to the leadership of the DOTR led by Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez and TRB Executive Director Jose Arturo M. Tugade for their steady hands in steering this project towards the finish line. Their valuable guidance helped us navigate the existing regulatory environment, which simplified settlement mechanisms, so that motorists can enjoy a smooth and secure experience,” the companies said.

The tollway operators expressed their continued committed to support government initiatives, invest in world-class systems, and contribute towards a better Philippines for all.
