AIESEC in UPLB’s YLS: Launch UP empowers 100 young leaders to continue to lead

From July 8-12, 2025, AIESEC in the University of the Philippines Los Baños (AIESEC in UPLB)
hosted a virtual Youth Leadership Summit (YLS), named Launch UP: Above and Beyond.
Attended by more than 100 youth leaders from different areas in the country, Launch UP was
geared into teaching delegates from Highschool to 1st Year College how to navigate leadership
    in the present.

Equipped with credible speakers from the AIESEC community, Launch UP focused on different
aspects of leadership, its purpose, meaning, and the active choice of doing it, all of which were
focused in empowering the delegates why leadership is essential to our society. Each day was
concluded with activities for delegates to reflect upon each speaker’s talk.

Day 1, with the theme “Lead with Purpose: Why Youth Leadership Matters Now” was opened by
Duc Anh Le Hoang (Tuna), the Outgoing Country President of AIESEC in Taiwan. Tuna
emphasized that leadership is most important during difficult times because it allows people to
care about society and its problems. The day concluded with delegates presenting how they
want to be perceived as leaders.

Day 2, with the theme “Lead with Meaning: Finding Purpose in Every Choice” had Gee Coronel,
the Outgoing Country President of AIESEC in the Philippines, as its speaker. Gee drew
inspiration from the movie “The Lorax”, and cited the line “Because unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”. They enlightened the delegates
that although the world would not change in the present time, the choices they make serve as
stepping stones for the future generation’s ability to make change. The session ended with the
delegates presenting their personal leadership gardens, where they showed their inspirations
and the purpose that drives them.

Day 3, with the theme “Lead Out Loud: Present Collaborate, Impact” started with a talk from
Rae Quilapio, former Country President of AIESEC in the Philippines. Rae empowered the
delegates to keep saying yes to leadership because it’s about taking care of others. She
emphasized that leadership is about the people and never about you[rself]. Followed by the talk
was a collaborative project planning made to assess the delegate’s ability to assess, create, and
plan innovative solutions for real world problems rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals
    (SDGs).

To end the summit, AIESEC in UPLB recognized delegates with different awards to ensure that
all their efforts during their three days of workshops and collaboration were worth it.

PLDT and Smart team up with MPower to register 153 sites under Retail Aggregation Program

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless arm, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), have partnered with MPower, Meralco’s local retail electricity supplier, to activate 144 cell sites and 9 facilities under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).

“Our Group has always believed that national progress depends on two essential foundations: reliable power and strong digital connectivity. One cannot function without the other—hand in glove, so to speak—and both are critical to ensuring that our people—especially those in the margins—have access to opportunity,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of PLDT, Smart, and Meralco. “This is why this collaboration is consequential, because it reflects our continued effort to align our resources and capabilities, to serve our customers better with reliable and consistent power and connectivity.”

    MPower

PLDT and Smart’s transition into the RAP through MPower’s energy solutions cover a total demand of over 2,500kW across the PLDT Group’s integrated network. Additional RAP implementations across more sites in Visayas and Mindanao are targeted for rollout before the year ends.

RAP offers end-users a smarter way to manage their energy requirements by allowing them to aggregate multiple accounts under the same franchise area and purchase power in bulk from licensed retail electricity suppliers. This setup enables the reduction of electricity costs and better control over energy use across different facilities. RAP also gives businesses access to competitive rates, flexible energy solutions, and renewable energy sources, helping them operate more efficiently.

“As we future proof our network to deliver 5G and AI capabilities to our customers, we are also mindful of the cost to operate the network and our impact to the environment.  This partnership with MPower will allow us to operate a smarter and greener network and manage our energy costs, all in a manner that is more kind to the planet,” said PLDT chief operating officer and head of network Menardo “Butch” G. Jimenez, Jr.

“As we scale up our 5G network, Smart welcomes this partnership with MPower, as it supports our goal of delivering simply reliable service that our customers can count on,” said Smart chief operating officer Anastacio “Boy” R. Martirez.

PLDT and Smart’s RAP activation builds on their continuing transition to the use of renewable energy sources. In 2024, 30 sites of the group were switched to 100% renewables—24 in Metro Manila and 6 in Mindanao. In 2023, PLDT and Smart tapped geothermal energy for 5 network facilities in the Visayas.

Through this pioneering initiative, PLDT and Smart join MPower in encouraging more industry players to switch to cleaner and more energy-efficient solutions. MPower First vice president and head Redel M. Domingo added, “MPower is proud to support PLDT and Smart in this transformative journey. Our energy solutions are designed to accelerate operational efficiency while supporting the country’s energy transition through championing consumer choice in the power market.”

Parallel to the transition to renewables, PLDT and Smart have been pursuing the adoption of green technologies and various resource optimization initiatives for their network sites, business offices, and key facilities nationwide. PLDT has also secured green loans, amounting to PHP5 billion to date, to partially fund its fiber expansion and minimize the carbon footprint of its network rollout.

The PLDT Group follows a decarbonization roadmap that aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, coming from a 2019 baseline. These efforts support the global ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Meanwhile, MPower has been ramping up efforts to deliver more competitive pricing, improved service, and access to renewable energy in support of the ERC’s vision for wider consumer access to electricity choice as part of the reforms under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.

Lalamove Ride boosts income with 2% commission, incentives

Lalamove, the leading on-demand delivery platform, is gearing up its pool of ride-hailing partner drivers to keep up with the growing demand for affordable ride-hailing services in the country.

With the surge in demand for Lalamove Ride since its launch earlier this year, Lalamove is encouraging its partner drivers to take advantage of the additional income they can get from every booking and take home 98 percent of their earnings every ride. Notably, Lalamove’s 2% commission is one of the lowest and non-mission-based rates in the industry, meaning drivers can benefit from it with every booking.

    Stackable income opportunities

Aside from the low commission, Lalamove Ride partner drivers can boost their income by encouraging other ride-hailing and delivery drivers to join Lalamove Ride and earn up to PHP4,200 in bonuses per successful referral.

They can also join ride missions and earn an incentive up to PHP2,000 weekly, to supplement their earnings. They can also join a raffle where verified drivers can get PHP1,000, as long as the “See Ride Order First” feature is turned on. These are on top of the initial ride fares they receive from every booking.

According to Ronald Valdez, a Lalamove Ride driver, he was encouraged to join Lalamove Ride because it offers a much lower commission compared to other players.

“Nung nakita ko na 2 percent [commission] lang, ‘ba maganda rito, mas maraming kita. Nakakatulong sa pangaraw-araw na gastusin dahil malaki ‘yung kinikita,” he shared.

Another Lalamove Ride driver echoed the sentiment but highlighted the flexibility Lalamove offers to maximize his daily income because it allows partner drivers to take ride bookings and delivery orders separately, but not at the same time.

“Minsan pag-peak hours ng ride bookings, Lalamove Ride ako kasi sayang yung malaking kita 2% commission. Minsan nag-aaccept pa rin ako ng Lalamove deliveries kaya flexible ‘yung pinagkukunan ko ng kita araw-araw,” he stated.

For another Lalamove Ride driver based in Rizal, he’s taking advantage of the low commission and incentives from the bookings that he’s getting in their area.

“Nakakabiyahe na rin ako ng Lalamove Ride dito sa amin sa Antipolo kaya nakukuha ko ‘yung malaking kita kasi maliit lang ‘yung commission tapos may mga missions pa. Makakatulong talaga siya sa pamilya ko,” he added.

Lalamove Ride is available in Greater Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Pampanga, and Cebu.

Win-win situation for drivers and commuters

Djon Nacario, managing director of Lalamove Philippines, emphasized that the continued growth of Lalamove Ride in the ride-hailing space opens more income opportunities for drivers and provides an affordable option for commuters.

“We have seen an impressive growth in the number of users who are using Lalamove Ride for their day-to-day commute. We want our partner drivers to enjoy the growing number of bookings and boost their income with the stackable income opportunities we offer,” Nacario said.

“We are targeting to have 20,000 drivers before the year ends, so we are inviting more drivers to join us as the 2% commission is not a promotional offer, unlike other platforms; it’s a real benefit that they can take advantage of, with no catch,” he stated.

He also shared that Lalamove consistently provides competitive earnings and flexibility that drivers need to thrive on the platform.

Lalamove supports its partner drivers with various benefits under its Panalomove Benefits, including fuel discounts, accident insurance, and health assistance.

PAGCOR, Ad Standards Council ink MOU to regulate gambling ads

After nine months of consultations, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Ad Standards Council (ASC) signed on July 16, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding for the regulation and pre-screening of gambling-related advertisements across all media platforms.

PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco and ASC chairperson Golda Roldan led the signing ceremony at the PAGCOR Corporate Office in Pasay City as part of efforts to promote responsible advertising in the gaming industry.

    PAGCOR
Chairman Tengco, together with (from left) ASC President Anna Locsin, ASC Chairperson Golda Roldan, and PAGCOR Assistant VP for Gaming Licensing and Development Ma. Vina Claudette Oca

The agreement adds gambling to ASC’s list of “must-screen” categories, joining alcoholic beverages, over-the-counter medicines, food supplements, airline/transport services with promotional fares, and breast milk substitutes.

Tengco said the MOU was a product of careful planning and thorough consultations with the ASC, contrary to what detractors’ claims that it was a rushed response to recent concerns about illegal online gambling and unregulated advertising.

“Almost a year ago, we began initial talks about this initiative. Today, we are gathered here to formally sign this agreement so that we can immediately execute everything we committed to in this Memorandum of Understanding,” Tengco said.

Under the agreement, all branded or corporate gambling ads—including television, radio, online, and outdoor advertising— must be reviewed and approved by ASC prior to public release to curb misleading content and protect vulnerable groups from potential harm.

Chairman Tengco (4th from right) joins key officers of the ASC in a group photo.

“Simple lamang po ang pinaka-layunin natin dito: ang tiyakin na ang mga patalastas ukol sa sugal ay hindi nanlilinlang at hindi sumasamantala sa kahinaan ng iba,” the PAGCOR chief added.

For her part, ASC chairperson Roldan said the collaboration underscores ASC’s commitment to protect consumers, particularly in industries that require heightened sensitivity in messaging.

“We stand with PAGCOR in our shared goal of protecting the Filipino people, especially in sectors like gambling where communication requires greater sensitivity and care,” she said.

Earlier, PAGCOR issued a directive ordering the immediate removal of all gambling-related billboards and out-of-home advertisements, including those on public transport systems such as buses, jeepneys, taxis, and trains.

All PAGCOR licensees and stakeholders were given until August 15, 2025, to completely remove all gambling-related outdoor ads.

Signify “Light & Beyond” event showcases sustainable and connected innovations

Signify, formerly known as Philips Lighting, the global leader in lighting, brought together visionary designers, architects, and professionals at the Light & Beyond event, held at the Ascott Hotel Makati, for an exciting discussion on sustainable lighting innovations.

Guided by its purpose to unlock the extraordinary potential of light for brighter lives and a better world, Signify emphasized how cutting-edge lighting technologies can go beyond illumination, empowering healthier spaces, smarter energy use, and more sustainable environments across both indoor and outdoor applications.

“At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to sustainable innovation,” said Raghuraman Chandrasekhar, country leader for professional business, Signify Philippines. “We design solutions that not only light spaces beautifully but also respect our planet. And when we talk about the future, there’s no ignoring the power of connected lighting and ultra-efficiency, transforming how we manage energy, environments, and experiences. This is a journey we take together with our specifiers. They are not just partners; they are co-creators of the future.”

Raghuraman Chandrasekhar, Country Leader for Professional Business, Signify Philippines

The Light & Beyond program was structured around five transformative solutions, each demonstrating how Signify is redefining lighting through sustainability, digital connectivity, and human-centric design:

    Philips UltraEfficient LED

Engineered to consume significantly less energy while delivering high-quality illumination, UltraEfficient LED lighting enables long-term savings and reduced environmental impact, paving the way for low-carbon, cost-efficient lighting across commercial and residential spaces.

    Interact Connected Lighting System

The Interact System showcased intelligent lighting controls for both office and outdoor settings. In the workspace, it enables data-driven energy management, enhances productivity, and provides actionable insights for space optimization. For outdoor environments, Interact Outdoor Multi Sensor delivers reliable “dusk till dawn” operation and motion-based “light on demand”, streamlining energy use and maintenance.

    Circularity through 3D Printed Luminaires

Emphasizing the shift toward a circular economy, Signify unveiled 3D-printed lighting fittings made from bio-circular materials. These luminaires can be reprinted, refurbished, reused, and recycled, creating a closed-loop product lifecycle that drastically reduces waste and carbon footprint.

    NatureConnect – Human-Centric Circadian Lighting

Recognizing that people spend up to 90% of their time indoors, NatureConnect was presented as a revolutionary solution inspired by nature. Using Bioup Circadian Lighting technology, it replicates natural daylight rhythms, improving mood, sleep quality, and productivity through customizable “Day Rhythms” and dynamic Natural Light Scenes tailored to human activity.

Solar Lighting Solutions – Zero Energy, Maximum Impact

Designed to bring light where it’s needed most, Signify’s solar lighting portfolio delivers off-grid, zero-energy lighting, expanding access to sustainable lighting in underserved communities. It reaffirms Signify’s belief that light should be accessible, empowering, and environmentally responsible, no matter the location.

    Signify

Throughout the event, Signify underscored the vital role of specifiers in turning innovation into meaningful impact. Their knowledge, creativity, and real-world experience help shape lighting solutions that are not only visionary but also relevant, implementable, and human-centric.

“Everything we achieve, every solution, every milestone, is the result of close collaboration with specifiers,” Chandrasekhar added. “Their insight drives us to innovate better, design smarter, and push the boundaries of what lighting can do.”

The Light & Beyond event was more than just a product showcase; it was a reaffirmation of Signify’s mission to lead the world toward a connected, sustainable, and brighter future, hand in hand with the professionals who bring these solutions to life.

YAMAHA DAY 2025:Bridging legacy and tomorrow through Kando

Yamaha Motor Philippines celebrated Yamaha Day 2025, marking a historic milestone of 70 years of Kando. In a literal sense, Kando is a feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that arises when encountering something of exceptional value, quality, or performance. But in Yamaha, it’s a way of life, more than just a creative compass; it’s a commitment that powers every engine, every note, every wave, and every breakthrough of Yamaha globally. If you’ve ever felt excited the moment you rev the motorcycle, proud of its style, or confident in its performance, that’s Kando in action.

YMPH’s celebration of Yamaha Global’s 70-year journey is more than a company story; it’s a shared experience with every customer who chooses to ride with the brand. Under this year’s theme, “Bridging Legacy and Tomorrow Through Kando,” Yamaha Day Philippines gathered thousands of its employees to rediscover the brand through a series of immersive activities held at the Malarayat Golf and Country Club, Batangas.

More than a celebration, Yamaha Day’s message extends far beyond the venue; it serves as a reminder of what lies at the heart of everything Yamaha stands for: delivering the next Kando experience to customers.

Honoring 70 years of Yamaha and its origin that redefines today

From the Red Dragonfly to Global Legends, Yamaha has been committed to enriching lives through innovation. The story began in July 1955, when a fearless team dared to build a motorcycle that would go on to defy expectations. That machine was the YA1, nicknamed Akitombo or the Red Dragonfly. Compared with most all-black motorcycle designs before, it offered an unconventional aesthetic to the market with a novel two-tone color scheme with cream and a reddish-brown reminiscent of the chestnut coat of a fine horse. But YA1 is more than just its beauty; its performance stirred the market’s interest as it conquered the grueling Mt. Fuji Ascent Race. The victory was the spark that lit the flame of Yamaha Motor.

Seventy years later, that same daring spirit fuels Yamaha Motor’s global journey—from land to sea (motorcycles and marine), through sound and beyond (music and robotics).

Yamaha Day in the Philippines: Real sparks within everyone

Fast forward to now, YMP brought together its employees to connect generations to the brand’s core. Yamaha Day bridges the old and the new, allowing long-time employees to rediscover the essence of Kando while inviting the younger generation to discover it for the first time.

Starting the Yamaha Day celebration, employees across all departments came together in an iconic display of unified passion by forming a human Yamaha 70th logo. Captured from above by an aerial drone, the formation showcased how individual sparks collectively create something truly meaningful. Throughout the day, they got to relive the brand history with an immersive Kando Journey walk, and each post carries a legacy that happened every decade. After that, there was a Kando wall setup that allowed them to express their thoughts freely. On top of it all, they also experience the thrill of Yamaha engineering through motorcycle test ride activities, reflecting Yamaha’s belief that exceptional customer experiences begin with a team that believes in what they create.

The next Kando action is a spark worth chasing

From a vision to create something beyond imagination, Yamaha’s story is written in grit, passion, and creativity, as it redefines the future of mobility and music. Yamaha Day 2025 is a moment to honor the past, embrace the present, and build what comes next—together. Legacy helps another chapter to be stronger than ever, and now, the next Kando action begins with its people carrying the real sparks ignited 70 years ago. This goes to show that every Yamaha employee carries the same riding reasons you do—to explore, to express, to experience. YMPH continues to ride forward, pursuing the next exceptional experiences for the Filipino riding community.

The next Kando action begins now. And it begins with you.

SeeSaw 2025: Where Play becomes Art – A Multimedia Arts Seminars & Exhibit

Did you see the one-of-a-kind nostalgic and colorful event for a cause organized by the Bachelor of Multimedia Arts students at Alabang Town Center?

On July 12 and 13, at the mall’s Activity Center, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna’s Bachelor of Multimedia Arts with special participation from Bachelor of Arts in Communication students worked hand in hand to present over a hundred artworks created exclusively for SeeSaw 2025. From thought-provoking installation pieces to the short films and animations screened throughout the weekend, every single creation contributed to bringing back that rush of childhood wonder.

SeeSaw 2025 proved to be more than just a visual celebration by providing an opportunity for learning experiences. The event featured insightful seminars led by guest speakers from various fields within the creative industry. Whether seasoned professionals or emerging artists, each speaker brought a unique perspective that inspired students and guests alike through stories of real-life experience, creative journeys, and artistic passion. Day 1 featured Ken Leviste, a filmmaker, educator, and creative entrepreneur, with award-winning films and a passion for multimedia storytelling and Albert Raqueño, an illustrator whose work captures the quiet beauty of everyday life with warmth, color, and sentimentality. On Day 2, the visionary photographer Enzo Santos took the stage, sharing how he captures culture through fashion, music, and raw human connection in his iconic work for top magazines and Jan Arkin, the mind behind Arkin Animations, inspired and entertained as he opened up about his creative process and how he found the stories woven through their animated works.

Beyond the seminars, there was also a more hands-on learning opportunity through the Watercolor and Lettering workshops. On Day 1, Patti Ramos brought her expertise to the Watercolor workshop while Day 2 had Naomi Tayao guide event-goers through the art of Lettering workshop. Attendees of the workshops ended up bringing home not just knowledge of a new skill, but also the masterpieces that they made themselves.

SeeSaw 2025 was also dedicated to creating impactful changes beyond the event itself. The event proudly supported two beneficiaries dedicated to nurturing the youth: Angat Kabataan – San Pedro, a youth-led nonprofit focused on leadership and volunteerism, and and SOS Children’s Villages Pilipinas, the world’s largest organization ensuring vulnerable children grow up with the care and support they need. During the event, representatives from the organizations took the stage to share their mission to uplift the youth that will become future artists, giving attendees a deeper understanding of how art and community go hand in hand. Their voices inspired many to look into how we can each make a difference, proving that creativity can spark real-world change.

Every corner of the creative playground held something new to discover. Artist booths by Overprint, Kim, Mink, and Geibbu filled the space with prints, stickers and colorful collectibles. There were even live portraits sketched on the spot by one of the event’s guest speakers, Albert Raqueño. Right alongside them, sponsor booths from Createev Designs and Guhit Kamay offered handcrafted keepsakes and paintings, each carrying its own story to discover. And of course, Don Antonio’s completed the scene with their signature baked goods and cookies, adding a sweet touch to the experience.

No creative event would be complete without bringing home a little piece of the fun. SeeSaw’s own merch corner was filled with t-shirts, stickers, and prints starring everyone’s favorite mascot, Emma. A standout favorite? The Dino merch collection, which brought a playful pop of nostalgia with its colorful, whimsical designs. It was an instant hit among attendees, winning over both kids and grown-ups alike.

Each item not only offered a tangible connection to the overall event’s heart and theme, but also helped support a greater cause. Proceeds from the event’s merchandise went directly to SeeSaw 2025’s beneficiaries, making sure that the creative energy and community built throughout the event continues to ripple outward.

The event reminded us how creativity can reconnect us to the simple joys of youth. This concept is interwoven throughout the entire two-day experience, creating pockets of memories shared and cherished through the event’s seminars and exhibits. Families, friends, and guests of all ages came together in a celebration of artistic expression and personal growth.

In the end, SeeSaw 2025 stood as a heartfelt tribute to the connection between who we are now and the dreamers we once were. With each piece, each talk, and each experience, artists invited us to look at the world through the eyes of wonder, joy, and hope, reminding us that there is always room for creativity, growth, and above all, play.
