The beastly Sony Alpha line of SLR cameras has its newest leader in the Sony a99 Mark II. Released in time for the series’ 10th anniversary, this camera sports a 42 MP Exmor R BSI-CMOS full-frame sensor mated to a Hybrid Phase Detect Autofocus system, allowing it to quickly lock on both stationary and moving subjects. Additionally, the 5-axis SteadyShot Inside stabilization system compensates for any shakes when the shutter is pressed.
Even though it’s a full-frame camera, its body isn’t as bulky as you’d expect. Besides being smaller, the package is built from magnesium alloy and is dust and moisture resistant to some extent. The grip, dials, and menu have also been redesigned for easier use.
Performance-wise, it’s rated for a burst speed of up to 12 fps and video capture of up to UHD 4K with complete pixels across the entire sensor. Its video prowess also includes up to 120 fps of slow motion capture.
