Malaysia will host the 4th ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC 2026) from 19 to 21 August 2026 at the Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA in Sepang.
The three-day conference will bring together policymakers, manufacturers, investors, researchers, and other industry stakeholders as Southeast Asia works to expand its role in the global battery economy. Discussions will cover manufacturing, safety, standards, investment, supply-chain integration, and deployment across electric mobility and energy storage.
From battery adoption to industrial scale
Organized by NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), ABTC 2026 carries the theme “Industrializing Battery Technologies: Strengthening ASEAN’s Battery Value Chain for Global Competitiveness.”
The conference comes as demand for electric mobility, renewable energy storage, and other battery-enabled technologies continues to grow. For ASEAN, the opportunity extends beyond adopting these technologies. The region is also looking to strengthen manufacturing capabilities, improve investment readiness, and bring more battery technologies into commercial use.
Malaysia’s role as host reflects its focus on clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and industrial innovation. Previous editions of the conference were held in Bali, Singapore, and Phuket.

Manufacturing, safety, and market deployment
The program is structured around battery co-creation and safety, manufacturing, application integration, and market enablement. Sessions will examine ASEAN’s battery industry, manufacturing scale-up, safety, policy, recycling, circularity, emerging technologies, and the conditions needed for wider market deployment.
International speakers are expected to include Professor Ying Shirley Meng of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, and Professor Khalil Amine, Argonne distinguished fellow and director of the Advanced Lithium Battery Technology Program.
Regional organizations represented at the conference are expected to include SEDA, MARii, Pertamina, A*STAR, and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP).

Each market brings different strengths across policy, research, manufacturing, safety, financing and deployment. Partnerships aimed at commercial deployment
ABTC 2026 is also expected to feature several partnership and agreement exchanges. These include a collaboration between NMB and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia on energy storage development and technology transfer.
Other planned agreements cover Compact Battery Energy Storage System prototyping between GigaFactory Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Milan Utama, a strategic collaboration between Infineon Technologies and Ampace, and a partnership between Green Tenaga and Go Rental Singapore.
The agreements reflect the event’s focus on turning regional discussions into technology development, commercialization, and practical deployment.
Building a connected ASEAN battery industry
ABTC was first held in Bali in 2023 and is now entering its fourth edition. Previous regional milestones associated with the conference include an agreement among ASEAN battery associations in 2023 and the launch of the ASEAN Battery Safety Network in 2025.
By connecting stakeholders working across materials, cells, packs, system integration, recycling, and end-use applications, ABTC 2026 aims to help build a more competitive and interconnected battery industry in Southeast Asia.
