VITRO Inc., the country’s largest data center services provider, has partnered with BBIX Philippines Inc. to establish a direct peering connection between BBIX and the VITRO Internet Exchange (VIX), strengthening internet exchange infrastructure in the Philippines.
The collaboration aims to improve traffic exchange efficiency by enabling more direct routing between networks, helping enterprises connected to both BBIX and VIX benefit from lower latency, improved performance, and faster access to digital services and online content.
The partnership also reflects the growing importance of carrier-neutral data centers and internet exchange ecosystems as demand for cloud services, hyperscale infrastructure, and digital connectivity continues to accelerate across the country.
100G interconnection deployed at VITRO Makati 2
As part of the partnership, VITRO and BBIX deployed an initial 100G network-to-network interconnection at VITRO Makati 2. The infrastructure is designed to support scalable traffic exchange while accommodating future growth in enterprise demand, cloud adoption, and digital platform usage.
Through direct peering, both exchanges can optimize traffic routing more efficiently while improving network resiliency and reducing dependence on longer international traffic paths. The setup is also expected to improve service delivery and responsiveness for businesses, digital platforms, and end users across the Philippines.
Combining local reach with global peering capabilities
VIX contributes a strong local internet ecosystem that includes access to more than 98 million internet users in the Philippines alongside a growing network of enterprises, carriers, and hyperscalers hosted within VITRO’s carrier-neutral facilities.
Its strategic data center locations also help position services closer to end users, improving network responsiveness and content delivery performance.
Meanwhile, BBIX brings its international peering ecosystem that includes cloud providers, content delivery networks (CDNs), content platforms, and global technology partners.
The partnership allows both exchanges to complement each other’s strengths while helping address connectivity gaps and improving overall internet exchange efficiency in the country.
“Through this direct peering partnership with BBIX, we are enriching the country’s digital ecosystem in a way that delivers more seamless and responsive online experiences for Filipinos,” said Gary F. Ignacio, chief commercial officer of VITRO Inc.
“By strengthening how traffic is exchanged between networks, we are improving access to content, enhancing performance, and enabling businesses and communities to better participate in the digital economy,” Ignacio added.
Supporting a more connected digital future
BBIX Philippines said the collaboration also supports its long-term vision of helping bridge digital connectivity gaps across the country’s many islands.
“Our goal is to bring the power of the internet closer to every Filipino,” said Toya Oba, general manager of BBIX PH. “Through our direct peering with VITRO IX, we are able to deliver more efficient and reliable connectivity that supports the growing demand for digital services in the country,” he added.
As internet traffic, cloud adoption, and content consumption continue growing, both VITRO and BBIX said they remain focused on advancing internet exchange infrastructure to support a more connected, efficient, and resilient digital ecosystem for the Philippines.
