Japanese watchmaker Seiko continues to make waves in the Philippine market as it launches its newest Seiko boutique at the Power Plant Mall in Makati City. The boutique, located at the R1 Level Expansion of the mall, showcases both its Seiko and luxury Grand Seiko collections.
Grand Seiko’s newest timepieces
Housed at the Power Plant Mall boutique are two new additions to the Grand Seiko Sport Collection. The travel-ready quartz GMT watch boasts a stainless-steel case and a dual-curve sapphire crystal surrounded by a fixed stainless-steel bezel with a 24-hour scale. SBGN027 features a black sunray dial with otherwise monochromatic highlights, while the SBGN029 has a blue sunray dial with red-color accents on the dial text and GMT hand.
Paying homage to the 55th year anniversary of the signature 44GS, another new watch to anticipate for pre-order is the SLGH013 under the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection. Inspired by the melting snows of Mt. Iwate, the SLGH013 features a new light blue dial and a case and bracelet made of Ever-Brilliant Steel. There is also the Limited Edition SLGH009, Grand Seiko’s first Ever-Brilliant Steel watch. Powered by the revolutionary Caliber 9SA5 that enhances energy efficiency, the high-beat watch offers a power reserve of 80 hours and boasts tempered screws to mark the 55th anniversary of 44GS.
Also available at the boutique is the collection that represents the future of Grand Seiko – the Evolution 9 collection. A perfect mixture of traditional and modern, the collection draws inspiration from the traditions and culture of Japan while remaining modernized with its confident lines, powerful presence, and quiet radiance that speaks to the next generation.
Red Dot Design Award 2022 “Best of the Best” winner SLGH005 also has the Evolution 9 Style, which according to the jury made up of 48 design experts from 23 countries, skillfully encapsulates Grand Seiko’s philosophy and embodies the classic Japanese design. Its special feature, the structured dial, transports wearers to the white birch tree forests near the studio where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are crafted. Capturing the essence of the white birch tree forest at night is the black dial of the SLGH017. Much like the SLGH005, the SLGH017 features powerful hands and prominent markers ensuring perfect legibility, and an alternate Zaratsu polish, distortion-free mirror finish, and delicate hairline finish giving the case a quiet and harmonious glow.
Timeless choices by Seiko
With its own dedicated corner at the boutique, Seiko’s patrons will have a variety of options that fits their lifestyle. Inspired by the ever-present neon lights in Tokyo at night, limited-edition Astron 5X Caliber proves to be the optimal traveling companion with its scratch-resistant titanium case and bracelet, GPS Solar Caliber 5X53 that automatically adjusts the time depending on the wearer’s time zone, and Lumibrite that emits an ethereal glow and delivers high night-time legibility. Perfect for any occasion, the timepiece is available in three color schemes: the SSH117 with a silvery white dial and a black bezel, SSH121 with a blue dial and bezel with a black case, and the SSH119 with a black dial and bezel with a blue sub-dial.
Seiko continues to uphold its reputation as a pioneer in sports timing for over six decades. One of its top sport watch collections is the hand-assembled Prospex Speedtimer Oregon powered by Caliber 8R46, which much like the Caliber 6139 used in the original 1969 Speedtimer, incorporates vertical clutch and column wheel mechanisms to ensure the highest possible levels of precision and durability.
Available for pre-order across all Seiko boutiques is the Prospex Speedtimer SSC813 which is powered by light energy, designed with a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water-resistant for up to 10 bar.
Another timepiece that athletes and sports aficionados alike would surely appreciate is the Prospex LX which represents the true spirit of Seiko. A perfect combination of aesthetics and practicality, the watch sports a high-end collection of aesthetics while maintaining its practicality with its low center of gravity ensuring the watch sits comfortably on any wrist and spring drive that promises the highest reliability in active sports scenes.
Lastly, the limited edition Prospex SLA063, with its subtle blue scheme, is known as the 1970 Mechanical Diver’s Modern Watch Re-interpretation. Staying true to its name, the watch is water resistant for up to 200m / 660ft divers and has a stainless steel case with a strong coating.
