The Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reinforced its commitment to safer and more responsible transport operations through a series of initiatives held in support of the Department of Transportation’s National Road Safety Campaign during National Road Safety Month.
Through transport sector training programs and active participation in the National Road Safety Summit, TMA highlighted the importance of education, vehicle readiness, industry collaboration, and responsible transport practices in fostering a stronger culture of road safety nationwide.
Building safer transport operations
Working alongside the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), TMA conducted the National Road Safety Training on May 21, 2026, for members, drivers, operators, and mechanics of the Lungsod Silangan Transport Service & Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Antipolo, Rizal.
The training focused on practical road safety knowledge, including Modern PUV standards, vehicle safety systems, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, pre-drive inspections, and fuel-efficient driving practices. Participants were equipped with skills and knowledge that can be applied directly to daily transport operations.
Supporting the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan
TMA aligned its participation with key pillars of the National Road Safety Campaign, including capacity-building initiatives, vehicle inspection awareness, and information campaigns supporting the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan (PRSAP).
According to TMA President Robert Carlos, creating safer roads requires collective participation from all stakeholders, including drivers, operators, manufacturers, and government agencies. He emphasized that practical training programs can help improve vehicle readiness and strengthen driving discipline across the transport sector.
Collaboration between government and industry
The activity was also attended by LTFRB Executive Director Atty. Sherwin Vizconde, who underscored the importance of cooperation between government agencies and private sector organizations in extending road safety education directly to transport operators and drivers.
The collaboration reflects a broader effort to bring road safety awareness closer to transport communities while supporting long-term improvements in operational standards and public transport safety.
Road safety takes center stage at the national summit
Following the training program, TMA participated in the National Road Safety Summit on May 26, the culminating activity of the National Road Safety Campaign.
The summit brought together government agencies, transport groups, automotive organizations, private sector representatives, and road safety advocates to share best practices and strengthen collective action toward safer and more sustainable mobility.
Through its exhibit participation, TMA highlighted the role of commercial vehicle manufacturers in promoting road safety while emphasizing the importance of continuous driver education, proper vehicle maintenance, and shared accountability across the transport ecosystem.
Continuing the commitment to safer mobility
During the summit, TMA also presented highlights from its National Road Safety Training initiative, demonstrating how targeted educational programs can create meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
As the association continues to work with government agencies and industry partners, it remains focused on supporting programs that improve transport safety, strengthen operational standards, and contribute to safer roads for Filipino communities.
