Our line of work allows us first access to countless tech toys both locally and abroad, and if there’s anything we’ll never tire of in this world of tech, it’ll have to be the gear devoted to good music. Our friends from LG sent over the LG Music Flow P7 and here’s what we enjoyed about it.

    Design: (4.5)

At first glance, you will immediately know what the most important feature of the P7 is. This portable Bluetooth speaker’s design is clean, minimalist, and well-thought out. Of particular note is its elegant rectangular frame that is weighty yet easily portable.

The P7 looks great on its own. It sports just the right heft and has a slightly textured matte chrome body that feels good to touch and is pleasant to the eyes. The only physical button in the P7 is found at top of the device; it is a circular metal control pad that allows you to establish Bluetooth connections (left, outer side of the circle), adjust the volume (top and bottom part of the circle), skip tracks (right), and power on or off the speaker (middle). On the left side of the device is a subdued LG emblem, and to one side is where you will find the aux and micro-USB ports. Both side faces of the P7 is embedded with speaker grilles that extend to the device’s borders. Should you find the lack of control buttons disconcerting, you’ve got LG’s dedicated music app to fill in the void.

    Hardware: (4.0)

Apart from being a good-looking speaker. The P7 comes with a built-in 2,600mAh Li-ion battery that promises you up to 10 hours on non-stop music playback, Bluetooth connectivity, and 20 watts and 2 channel sound.

Bundled in the package is a micro-USB cable and adaptor readily available for when you need to juice up. There isn’t really much to say on here, so let’s proceed with the review.

    User Experience: (4.0)

Right out of the box, setting up the P7 is simple: lay it on a flat surface, press the power button and an indicator that it is ready for action will light up, accompanied with polyrhythmic sound. You can then ready your Bluetooth-enabled device, press the Bluetooth button, pair, and play.

The volume of the sound it delivered is good, and you can fine-tune it using the LG Music Flow app on your phone, or with the settings available on the device you paired with it. I was impressed with its two discrete channels of sound, which had great separation, despite the speakers’ smallish frame. I haven’t had the chance to watch a movie with it, but if the music performance is any indication, it should have no problems withmovie nights as it produces full and powerful audio. Sound clarity was good even when the volume is turned up and its deep bass was satisfying.

The P7 can be a part of the LG Music Flow system or stand alone. You can either use it to amplify your home sound equipment (if you have a compatible LG TV) or carry it around. It is compatible with multiple devices and can be paired with up to three Bluetooth devices can be all at same time.

The latter is great for sharing music with friends, turning up parties and even meetings.

As it this hardware is portable, LG threw in a hefty built-in battery that charges fast and will last you up to 10 hours of non-stop music.

    Value: (4.0)

The LG Music Flow P7 is a good value for money with as sticker price of PHP 6,890. It is a well-made piece of kit and given its price, does the job well.

    Bottomline:

I’d actually like one for myself.
