The film adaptation by DreamWorks Studios of Electronic Arts’ long-running driving game series Need for Speed, scheduled for release in 2014, has casted the Ford Mustang as its hero car.
The Ford Mustang made its first silver-screen appearance just months after it made its market debut in the 1964 New York World Fair and continued its prolific career until now. The Pony car has earned itself roles in movies and TV shows such as the James Bond film Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Bullitt, Alcatraz, Gone in Sixty Seconds, and the list goes on. The Mustang has a huge fan base worldwide, and has earned an account of nearly 3,000 on-screen appearances, a list grown by 100 contributors on a crowd-sourced site called MustangImdb.com.
The Ford Mustang, celebrating its 50th birthday next year and joining the exclusive club of vehicles in continuous production for 50 years, will return to the silver screen once again as it joins the film’s lead, Aaron Paul.
“We’re thrilled to have Ford play such an important part in a film adapted from one of the most popular video games of all time,” said Keith Koeppen, Ford’s marketing communications manager. “Mustang has an incredible history appearing in movies and Need for Speed will be a great way to continue its hero car legacy,” Koeppen added.
The Ford Mustang was modified and created for high-stakes racing and stunts in the film, with the aid of designers at Ford. Its façade was over-hauled through custom bodywork, custom paint, and high-tech LED to cater a more bad-ass, butt-kicking look. The top-of-the-line Mustang features a 900-horsepower all-aluminum supercharged 5.8-liter V8 modified engine by Ford Racing, which will surely suffice for anyone’s need for speed.
