Acer’s Iconia W3, reviewed in the October issue of Gadgets is not a bad device. It is a highly capable Windows 8 device in a handy 8-inch frame that gives amazing usability in such a small package. Though it’s very neat and convenient, it isn’t without its shortcomings. The screen in particular could do with a little polish, as it is a little grainy, particularly for those who intend to use the device to do a lot of reading and watching videos.
Shortly after its launch, rumors of an update to W3 started to circulate. These rumors, which said that the device would see an updated display and processor, seem to be coming true as the website bouweenpc.nl managed to get their hands on the as yet unannounced Iconia W4 at an event put together by Intel.
The new 8 incher was reported to be running a faster Atom processor, a much better IPS screen and, well, little else. This isn’t really cause for complaint, as out main concern with the device centered around the screen. The device is scheduled for an October launch, so if you didn’t ump on the chance to get a W3 when it first came out, it might be a good idea to hang back just a little bit longer.
