Sometimes, things get really nasty, really quickly. We can’t really control the things that happen around us, but what we can do is be ready. Backpack Shield (through LaRue Tactical) has released a Level III-A backpack insert that is perfect for those who want the protection of body armor but can’t wear it. The insert is 17″ x 12″ and is just over a third of an inch thick. The level III-A plate stops all conventional handgun bullets, including 9mm, high-velocity FMJ ammo and .44 Magnum rounds, plus, it’s stab-proof. That’s a lot of protection for a ballistic shield that can fit in a laptop bag and weighs all of two pounds.

On top of the superb protection offered by the plate, it also doesn’t have the destructive deformation could still hit and injure the user, as happens with soft armor. It’s a very simple device. Slip it into your bag, and you have a bullet-resistant shield that you can get behind in an active shooter situation or if you find yourself at exactly the wrong place at the wrong time.
